Lightly hazy gold pour and a thin white head

Smell is big citrus notes and that's about it

Taste is big orange notes up front with a sudden and jarring bitterness towards the backend which is likely the saffron.

Crisp and highly carbonated.

Overall- Nothing super special and the saffron (or whatever packs the bitter punch) isn't super pleasant.

16oz can, served in a snifter glass. Pours a clear golden orange body, one finger white head with fair retention and splotches of lacing. Smell is lemon peel, zest, orange, caramel and a bit of floral spice. Flavour is a clean citrus and orange bite, zest and light caramel. Touch of floral notes. Mouthfeel is lighter bodied, crisp with good carbonation, easy to drink. Balanced and clean pale ale with the additions not overwhelming the base beer in any way. Nothin particularly special but tasty nonetheless.

The beer poured from the 16 ounce can into a Nonic a very slightly hazy golden color with almost no head whatsoever.

The smell is pretty one-dimensional, being dominated by blood orange. I happen to like blood orange, so this is a pleasant smell to me. As the beer warmed, there was also a pungent note that I will take as the saffron. There is a light, bready malt far in the background.

The taste pretty much follows. It is a blood orange bomb, no doubt about that. There's a little pungent bitterness that I take to be the saffron and a little bit of a floral note. The malt is nearly indistinguishable underneath the orange, and the bitterness actually could be a bit more assertive. While the malt flavor (assuming it is the base beer) was present and quite good, it was simply buried and not evident until well into the consumption.

The feel is light, crisp, but low on the carbonation. There's nothing to give any relief for the orange flavor.

Overall, it is an OK beer. I'd expect it to be a bit more carbonated. It's a juice bomb, but not in the NEIPA juice-bomb category by any means. Glad I tried it and I like blood orange so I will finish off the 4-pack, but not something I need to have again.

First time I've seen this Pale Ale available in a can. My favorite Foolproof product to date. Federal Hill merits repeat purchases when I'm in RI provided cans continue to be available. In today's world of IPA's, a solid Pale Ale like Federal Hill provides an alternative taste opportunity without being a radically different style.

Enjoyed on tap in a shaker pint glass. Nice crisp and clean finishing pale ale, straw yellow color. My only drawback is the nose, the saffron addition is a bit unnatural smelling. Not the top of its class but a nice sessionable ale you could spend an afternoon enjoying.

On-tap 12/23/2016 at Pizza J’s in Providence, RI, served in a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a light yellow color, with a large white head that fades slowly and leaves a very thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains blood oranges and other citrus fruits, light caramelized malts and some hops.

T: The taste starts out bready with flavors of wheat and a thin malt character. Then some sweet flavors of blood orange and caramel come in. hops presence is mild for the style and brings a decent balance. The after-taste is slightly bready and slightly hoppy.

M: Crisp and smooth, light-to-medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: A little tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, decent representation of style, this is a decent beer to drink for a while.

Lighter yellow (straw-like) brew; reasonable head size and retention.

Crisp, hoppy aroma, with touches of citrus and tropical fruit. Malt backbone leans toward an IPA, coming across not particularly sweet or strong on the aroma.

On the palate, it continues the crisp feeling, while there is plenty of malt body after all. Citrus and pineapple; bread and biscuit; light grass and peel to finish the brew.

Lively and medium-light bodied. It goes down easy without feeling watery.
