Notes: The ultimate suburban brew, Backyahd is an aggressively hopped American IPA with a tantalizing hop aroma. The beer’s bitterness pairs perfectly with spicy foods coming straight off the grill. Enjoy it with friends, family, or whomever you choose. After all, it’s your Backyahd.

A: hazy, gold; 3 finger head that faded slowly; nice lacing;

S: interesting nose; the first thing I picked up was oak - don't know where that's coming from; some pine and citrus as well;

T: piney, earthy; a little different; bitterness hits pretty quickly and it finishes with the same piney, earthy, bitterness; well balanced;

M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; crisp;

O: the earthiness of this beer is a little different and interesting, although I would prefer more citrus and floral notes;

12 ounce can, w/o freshness info

Clouded darker shade of golden amber. Sturdy and lasting lite khaki head, leaves real nice froth, low sheeting and scattered fine lace. Nice looking beer.

Big nose w/ floral, citric and per-fumy notes.

Well hopped and fresh tasting IPA, with more citrus n pine hop bombs dropping all over.

Quality IPA in a can. Impressed with this one.

12oz can bought as part of a 6-pack from Yankee Spirits, Sturbridge, MA.

Poured into an imperial pint glass, formed a 1/2" light beige head over the cloudy golden amber brew. Frothy head holds on, with coating thick lace. Aroma is moderately of juicy citrus.

Taste is malty sweet to start, tea in the middle, and a muted citrus with light to medium bitterness to the close. Mouthfeel is smooth, and drinkability is good. Not sure what's with the tea character I get, but overall a good brew.

Small head that settles to a single layer of bubbles. A couple of spots for lace. Chill hazed with a slightly dirty gold color.

Mild floral hop aroma.

Starts with a soft pale malt taste. A black pepper hop kicks in slowly. The aftertaste is decently long lasting. The body is light with a higher than typical carbonation.

I have been awash in CANs awaiting inclusion in The CANQuest (TM) and this New England box recently surfaced. I actually visited the brewery last year during a visit to a friend in PVDRI. I like going up there as it usually dovetails with an AHL game at The Dunk, plus I totally dig Trinity and their beers. I was given several of Foolproof's CANs, but this one had not come off of the line at the time of my visit.

From the CAN: "Guaranteed to deliver an unspoken zen with a spatula in your other hand ..."; "The ultimate suburban brew, Backyahd is an aggressively hopped Ameri[CAN] IPA with a tantalizing hop aroma. The beer's bitterness pairs perfectly with spicy foods coming straight off the grill. Enjoy it with friends, family, or whomever you choose. After all, it's your Backyahd."; "Your Life. Your Beer."; "Experience Responsibly".

I heard a nice, loud Crack and celebrated with an inverted Glug. This created two fingers of dense, rocky French Vanilla-colored head with great retention. The room smelled like pine air freshener, so I fired up the grill to get some brats going. I know, you're not supposed to use charcoal indoors, but what's the worst that could happen? What, like I might die from carbon monoxide asphyxiation? Bah, humbug! Color was a golden-yellow (SRM = 5) with a slight haze. Putting my nose to the glass, the pine scent was intense and my mouth was watering. Mouthfeel was medium and the hops were biting on my tongue, worming their way into my taste buds like carbonic acid, stripping the weak, dead buds from my poor, bruised, aching tongue. Yow! I was running late, so I didn't have time to tie off and mainline so I CANtinued with an oral ingestion, but I was definitely getting off. Man, you had best like pine hops if you are going to tackle this bad boy. You know that I was digging the action. Sure, it was unbalanced, but it was not saturated with hops. The finish was desert dry, and I could hear the Zephyr winds blowing across the Sahara when I exhaled. Minty, flavorful and at a mere 6% ABV, this is a Hula in the Coola (01 Feb, annually) CANdidate as well as a potential summer cooler filler. Yum!

A: 3.75 - Cloudy gold color with a moderate but fading head.
S: 3.75 Nice bouquet of citrusy, floral hops.
T: 4.0 - Plenty of bitterness, and a lot of citrus tasting hops: tastes like an IPA back from the late 90s. Very light malt, with a dry finish.
M: 3.75 - Light bodied, perhaps a tad thin, but with good carbonation.
O: 4.0 - Nothing complex here, but it's highly drinkable and I enjoyed it.

Drank directly from the can.

The smell featured resinous citric and piney hop notes atop a moderate grainy aroma.

The taste consisted of an upfront balmy piney hop that slowly faded allowing for a soft caramel to complete the flavor.

The mouthfeel was toward the fuller side of the style.

Overall a handy IPA.
