A true to style robust Porter with a healthy dose of peanut butter. Our take on this style differs from most in that it finishes dry, not sweet, making it extremely drinkable. *Contains: Nuts

If a brewpub is new or obviously an amateurish operation with no pretensions toward fanciness, I will not review them if their beers are bad. There's no point in being mean.
For some strange reason, these small operations always try out some weird high-concept beer, even if they can just barely brew a palatable APA, and a staggering percentage of these beers are peanut butter porters. I have tried many, all of which will remain unnamed, a few of which are easily among the ten worst beers I have ever drank. I have never had a decent Peanut Butter beer... until now?
That--that was lame. This is decent. You already know from looking at the score. It was beyond decent, actually, and it makes me wonder just how they did it.
Pours very dark with a large, fluffy brown head. Smells quite nutty, but not in the usual beer way, like how nut brown ales kind of have a whiff of nuttiness. This smells straight-up like dry-roasted peanuts. Not conventionally beer like, but very nice.
Tastes much more beer-like, with the nuttiness remaining. Big stouty malts start things out, bitter and milk-sweet, moving quickly into a middle that's a melange of peanut butter, chocolate, and barley. This stretches out until the beer is swallowed.

Near black body, fast disappearing tan head. Strong peanut aroma, with notes of roasted malt and a bit of chocolate. Taste of peanuts and roasted malt. I wish the feel would have been heavier. Somewhat thin with medium carbonation. I like the way the brewer stayed away from adding a sweet note. Drinks clean and definitely a peanut porter

From a 12oz can.
This is a very dark brown pouring beer. No light comes through when held to the light. The head almost looks creamy, and is 1 1/2 finger. Tan in color, but not too long lasting. There's no lacing on the glass as the head dissipates.
As I was pouring the beer I was getting a nutty aroma that smelled like pecan to me. Up close it's just full on peanut butter and a chocolate note that is a dark chocolate.
This beer has a pleasing mix of chocolate and peanut butter. The chocolate starts it off, and it's more of a dark chocolate flavor with a good mix of bitterness and sweetness. The peanut butter hits more on the back. This flavor is smooth and somewhat oily, like when you taste the oil from the jar of peanut butter.
I am liking the body here. It is smooth and creamy feeling. Quite full, and the peanut oil also adds to the smooth feeling.
I am digging this beer. It is a good combination of chocolate bitterness and sweetness. Smooth creamy peanut flavors top it off. Delicious.

12 oz can canned 8/2/23 into a 12 oz mug.
L: Pours black with a thin khaki head that is fizzy, recedes quickly to nothing, subtle cola-like carbo bubbles, no lacing, no edge foam.
S: Peanut butter, chocolate, light toast, a hint of coffee.
T: Same as aroma adding gentle sweetness and a touch of char, background wheat. It is roasty toasty in the middle with a light chocolate aftertaste.
F: Soft cola-like medium-bodied mouthfeel with a silky medium-long finish that is clean and lightly dry.
O: Well balanced and simple. More like roasted peanuts rather than PNB. A great tasting easy-drinking Porter. Nice blend of tastes. It is very good to excellent in its style.

Batch #1387, 6.0% ABV
Pours a dark cola colour with a head that recedes fairly quickly into some tan bubbles barely covering the surface. Nose is peanut butter (almost like Reese's Pieces), very inviting. Taste follows with some bitterness overlaying the peanut butter, balancing sweetness out nicely. Finish is a little harsher than I expected but still a very good example of the style.

2015 notes:
Appearance: deep black, under a rich, toasty brown head, looking good.
Aroma: sweetness and nuts starts it off. Earthy, and malty, and doggone it, peanut-buttery. Scarcely a note of hop bitterness to be found anywhere. Dark malts and peanut butter.
Taste: All of that and more, on the palate. Medium-bodied, with a semi-sweet finish. The full flowering of the peanut-buttery-ness seems to wane a bit after the start. Let's give it another chance,….well, it's sweet, nutty, pleasant, drinkable, and I don't think I would ever have two in a row. Or finish off a growler by myself again. It is what it is, and what it is, is okay. Beer, and I can drink it.

On-tap at Dangerous Man Brewing, Minneapolis, MN
A: The beer is jet black in color and poured with a short tan head.
S: Moderate aromas of peanut butter are present in the nose.
T: Moderate to strong flavors of peanut butter are present in the taste. It's difficult to discern if there are any other flavors of the underlying porter.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: I really liked the aromas and flavors of peanut butter in this beer, although it tasted more like a lighter version of a stout than a porter.
Serving type: on-tap
