Pretty solid beer. I have only tried it once and have been looking for it ever since.

Bomb is good but the this is one of the beers that I think improves the most with barrel aging. The peppers in the non barrel aged version can taste over the top, but with the adding like ageing it really makes well with the bourbon and oak.

Look - I kept it in the bottle because I didn’t have a good glass to pour it in while rving.
Smell - dark chocolate vanilla covered coffee beans in a wooden rum barrel
Taste - honestly dead on with the smell. Not that boozy for being 15% and not to sweet.
Feel - medium smooth creamy body with a tingling light carbonation
Overall - fantastic well done imperial stout!

Drank from a 12 fl. oz. bottle purchased at Craft Beer Cellar, Belmont, MA
Served in a snifter

Review #1550

Somewhat murky, dark brown appearance. The medium viscosity body was topped by a small, bubbly, tan colored crown that quickly fell to a small collar. Minimal spotty lacing stuck along the glass.

Really interesting nose. The first thing that stood out were the big vegetal notes from the chilis. Green pepper came to mind. Loads of rich, smooth, dark chocolate too. Chocolate syrup or chocolate fudge came to mind. Fairly boozy but not overly so. Subtle vanilla notes were also detectable. As the beer sat, the nose both intensified and smoothed out. The chili spice also took a backseat to the rich dark chocolate notes. The vanilla really came forth. More booziness too. I probably would not peg this for being rum barrel aged but perhaps bourbon.

Like the nose, the flavor was rich and surprisingly savory. Malty and robust up front. Moderately roasty. Bakers chocolate appeared mid palate. Chili spice notes were noticeable as well and really intensified as the beer moved along the palate. Bit of a vegetal-like quality. Loads of chili spice in the finish. This was definitely one if the spiciest beers I have ever tried. Roast, booze, charred wood and more chili heat lingered after the swallow.

Medium bodied mouthfeel. Not quite as rich or as thick as I was anticipating. The liquid contained a subtle, finely beaded effervescence that fluffed up really nicely when it hit the palate. Super creamy, slick and smooth.

Pirate Bomb! Is an interesting beer that came across as much more spicy and savory than I was anticipating. Also, it unfortunately lacked any discernible coffee notes. This is an interesting offering for sure but probably not one that I would go to great lengths to procure.

Bottled in 2017 (month unknown)

Pours a jet-black with a short, cola-like head

Immediately releases huge notes of dark chocolate brownie topped with a sprinkle of confectionery sugar on a toasty oak background

A wave of supremely creamy milk chocolate leave bits of burnt sugar and charred coconut carries the inevitable chilied rum barrel burn in its wake

Heavy flavors feeling creamy and thick while leaving the mouth feeling pleasantly coated

This is a spectacular dessert beer in about every sense. Not too cloying while still going down like a rum-soaked chocolate brownie. I can't say I'd reach for this one often with flavor so pronounced and intense, but when the mood strikes, this is a deliberate and satisfying drink.

Pretty average at best and I think a poorly crafted beer to be honest. I love Prairie Bomb! and think they did an excellent job on the original....everything else I've have from them is at best average and sometimes undrinkable.

Incredible. I tasted this side by side with KBS, BCBS, and Parabola and this was the clear favorite and winner. It plays hide and go seek with its 15% ABV, I’m still searching for it. The best of the Bomb series!

Pour: Pitch black (used motor oil) with a thin tan head that rings over time.

Nose: Fudge Brownie/Meets a dark and stormy.

Taste: Warm walnut brownie with baileys fudge topping. Simply outstanding....the cellar really paid off here mellowing out the rum & chili pepper heat.

Mouthfeel: One of the best. Very viscous.

Overall: Pure Excellence in a glass. Need more rum barrels in my life.

Poured from fridge temperature. Pours motor oil black with a reasonable amount of light brown head. Very appealing. Nose is amazing. I get a nice amount of rum, black licorice, chocolate, vanilla, molasses, and a nice hint of coffee. Picking up some nice dark fruit - blackberries and cherries. Taste is incredibly complex. I get some nice spice upfront, with a bit of alcohol heat. Rum and vanilla are strong, with chocolate kicking in after that. The coffee is amazing. Definitely some nice roasted malts and dark fruit as well. There is a lot going on, but it's a wonderful combination of flavors. Mouthfeel is very viscous and robust. Aftertaste is chocolate and spice. Overall, an incredible stout.

Amazing beer in every regard. Only knock is a little too much heat from the chile. If a touch more subdued it would be perfect.

Pours a black color with a thin brown head. Nose is superb. Coffee, cinnamon, nutmeg, peppers ,rum chocolate. Taste is also great but not as great as nose ,with all of the above smells lays a beautifully crafted stout, i love the rum barrel that permeates this. Mouth feel was a bit hot on the barrel but thepeppers and spice smoothed that out. Wish i had two of these.
