Really dark brown color with light brown head. Aroma is sweet and chocolaty, a bit grainy with some dark bread crust. Taste starts balanced, roasty and a bit of lactic sweetness. Body is medium with low to medium carbonation. Not bad but it's quite simple overall.

Poured into snifter from 12 oz bottle.
A- poured a deep brown, almost black. Very small light brown head. No lace whatsoever.
S- milk chocolate, roasted malt, a slight coffee ground aroma.
T- follows the nose pretty much. More coffee ground bitterness plus a faint spiciness.
M- light-medium mouthfeel. This beer is really thin. Low carbonation.
O- meh? This was a rather uninspired offering from Prairie.

A: Pours a clear but opaque extremely dark brown bordering on jet black in color with light amounts of active visible carbonation rising along the edges of the glass and moderate amounts of cola brown highlights. The beer has a half finger tall foamy tan head that quickly reduces to a very thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Light to moderate aromas of roasted malts and chocolate.
T: Upfront there is a light to moderate flavor of roasted malts with a very light amount of sweetness and some very light notes of coffee/burnt malts. That is followed by moderate flavors of baker's chocolate and cocoa but again with little sweetness. Finally there is a light amount of lactose in the finish. Light to moderate amounts of lingering roasty bitterness through the finish.
M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Thin and slightly watery, especially for the style. Dry in the finish.
O: Interesting in that it is a milk stout that does not have a lot of associated sweetness. The dryness in the mouthfeel is interesting and different. Glad to try it, not sure I would grab it again at the price point.

Poured from a 12 oz single. No date.
All black. Thin, somewhat fizzy tan head that vanishes within seconds. TONS of debris. You would swear this was a 5 year old Trappist that I hard poured. The bottom of the glass looks like congealed fat from a pork loin.
Smells very good. Lots of sweet chocolate. Like a Nesquick chocolate milk with a few extra scoops of powder. Faint roasted coffee hidden in the background.
Taste pretty much follows. A condensed milk sweetness that makes the chocolate taste like a Tootsie Roll or a Milk Dud. A little stronger roasted/ashy aftertaste than the aroma.
The carbonation seems to be on the higher end of the spectrum than lower. It is also very thin bodied. It does not shine in this area.
This milk stout is nowhere near Left Hand or Moloko, but it does smell and taste good. It is one of those beers that starts to slide after every sip, and towards the end you really don't like it anymore. I think it is just the intensity level of the flavors combined with the feel. Very watery. In all fairness, it really does taste good, and I have no idea how old it is. It just isn't one I would go back for in today's market.

Backing off of their Bomb! stouts, a more somber and approachable tone is taken with Prairie's latest cold-weather option. Its smooth and sultry char is just what the psyche ordered.
Seeming burnt black in its ominous aesthetics, the stout casts a creamy mocha-stained froth that seduces the nose with creamy roast, burnt toast, baker's chocolate, roasted nuts and deep french-press coffee. But its milky, silky and vanilla-like weave latches onto the tongue seduces the tastebuds with ease.
But its creamy roast quivers over the middle to reward the palate with a surprisingly relaxed sense of drinkability. Trending towards dry burnt toast, earthen debittered coffee, wonderfully burnt cream and caramel and cocoa rest upon a honeycomb of malt that carries considerably less weight than does its lavishly creamy upstart.
Seemingly full but reasonably so to the initial taste, its waning memories are dry, toasty and roasty with just enough malt support to resist ash, roast-derived astringency or harsh bitterness. Echoes of baker's chocolate and coffee extend into aftertaste and heighten my cravings for blackened, jerk-seasoned chicken wings.

Look: 3.75 - It looks a lot like Dr. Pepper. It's very dark; you can't see the light through it, but there's this brown, amber hue to it. There are a lot of little bubbles.
Smell: 3.75 - Sweet chocolate, brown sugar. Nice smell to it.
Taste: 3.25 - Hmm. The first impression I got was this medicinal kind of taste. Like, a weird bug spray/cough syrup taste; certainly not what I was expecting. Upon second try I get just a little bit of that sweet chocolate I picked up on with the nose. That's pretty much it. The weird medicinal taste went away, thankfully. Now it's just a little bit of chocolate.
Feel: 3.25 - Pretty carbonated with a tiny bit of burn. A little too thin for my liking.
Overall: 3.5 - A C beer. This really isn't anything special. Bomb! was awesome, Bible Belt was awesome, Birra was awesome, Standard was awesome...this wasn't. It just tasted like some typical, meh beer. I'm a little disappointed, Prairie. Not gonna lie.

12 oz bottle poured into a stemmed Pilsener (beer tulip) glass. Deep dark brown with tan head and good lacing. Roasted malt and sweet cacao nose. Malt and cacao continue on the tongue with caramel, dark fruit and lactose sweetness. Medium body, smooth, creamy and moderately carbonated. Not too full or heavy for a sweeter beer; tasty and drinkable.

Pours up to a light brown head that falls to nothing. No lace. Aroma is roasted barley, chocolate and coffee with hints of vanilla, earthy hops and smoke. Flavor mirrors the smell , with more emphasis on chocolate and milk sugar. Mouthfeel is medium thick with a slight grittiness to it one would expect from cocoa. A very tasty milk stout.

Pours black with brown hues. Little head to speak of.
Milk chocolate and roast in the nose. Slight pine and spice in the nose.
Medium body with velvety smoothness. Vanilla and more milk chocolate. No acrid roasted characters. Balanced malt to hop ratio. Very pleasing throughout. Light coffee notes with a touch of pine.
Maybe tried a bit cold but still. Very nice example
