Style: American Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Phantasmagoria is an IPA that is low in malt flavors, but high in hops. We brew this beer as a nood to the big hoppy beers of the west coast. We use loads of citrusy and piney hops at the end of the boil and in the fermenter to make this beer a hop experience.

12 oz. bottle. Pale orange and hazy. Smells of lemon and tropical hops. Booze. Herbal hops too. Taste is a little orangey. Lots of pilsner malts and some grain. Boozy back end. Tropical hops return in the finish. Medium heavy. Pretty boozy. It’s not bad, but it’s excessively alcoholic and doesn’t quite deliver enough flavor.

Another winner from Prairie... Medium-pale gold beer just shy of clear with a fat white head and lotsa lace down the glass... Aromas of bright citrus and mild pine preview a similar-tasting juicy body... Sweet citrus fruits - orange, in particular - and a gentle pine element caress the palate, soft-bodied and smooth... A super-nice DIPA... Arcane Julian dating reveals a 10/2/17 canning... Brewed and canned by Krebs Brewing...

Phantasmagoria is a surprisingly light-colored beer for an IIPA; the straw-colored body might fool you into thinking that there's not going to be much to it. The body shows the slightest degree of haze, and is quite effervescent, notwithstanding which the pebbly white head is a thin, brief-lived affair; lacing consists of sparse lines and dots. The aroma is big, vinous and delicious: dominant green grapes over pine, perfumey florals, hints of citrus and slight alcohol overtones that combine to put one in the mind of white wine. Up front, the palate is green grapes and bitter pineapple with hints of bittersweet nuttiness; mid-palate the nutty character becomes more pronounced, offsetting some of the bitterness, and we get a view of a more substantial malt foundation than one would expect from the lightness of the beer. The finish is a moderate flash of bittersweet, and then moderately dry; the linger is a mild piney bitterness that sticks around for a few minutes. Mouthfeel is biggish for the light body, and slightly astringent; the texture is slightly creamy and slightly peppery from carbonation that could be a bit more firmly expressed. This beer is pretty well balanced in terms of hops and malt, so it is a good bit less malty than the average IIPA. (growler)

12oz can, served in a snifter glass. Since Prairie just started distribution here, I'm assuming this is pretty fresh. Pour is a unfiltered haze, medium golden body, one finger white head, bubbly lacing. Smell is pine, grapefruit and sweet piney resin, moderate caramel body, a bit of pineapple as well. Flavour is grapefruit sweetness, a bit of resinous bitterness, moderate sugar and caramel sweetness, touch of toasted biscuit, light tropical fruit and pineapple, finishing off with a mild resinous bitterness. Fairly sweet. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, appropriately carbonated, good and appropriate depth, mild-moderate pine resin bitterness. Solid IPA, nothing mindblowing but decently constructed. A bit pricey, but that is Prairie standard pricing.

Terribly boozy, with awkwardly sweet malt and fake pineapple and tropical citrus pith, all coming together to create an absolute abomination of what I imagine they thought was a NEIPA style. Holy shit this was a horrific beer, who tastes these things and says "yeah, this is good"? Drain pour after the first two sips, this is the sort of things nightmares are made of. Not a great impression for my first offering from Prairie. I'd rather drink water.

Pours a lighter lemon color into a goblet with a thick white head that leaves one full ring of lace behind as it settles into a frothy mass.Somewhat tart in the nose along with some fresh tropical fruits, like others have said very fresh.I'am amazed that this this beer is 8% alc because it goes down so easily with the fresh tropical fruits and the ever so slight tartness that keeps it light tasting and feeling, the best thing about this beer for me is the sweetness is almost non detectable it's just fresh and light for how big it is.A fantastic DIPA,more breweries need to take Prairie's lead and brew the style like this!

A medium cloudy and hazy golden turbidity. Lots of citrus and lemony hops. This is my first IPA from prairie and it did not disappoint. I will pick up more if I see them again!

12 oz can says 14571 PHANTAZ. (When was this canned?! Would greatly appreciate some clarification on this).
Poured into wine glass.

Pours a heavily cloudy and hazy light golden body with a finger and a half of super fine white head - great retention and superb lacing. Sadly, the smell wasn't too impressive; fairly malty and hints of stone-fruitiness. Not a very intense piney or citrus aroma at this point. Taste is still enjoyable - sweet, citrusy, slight bitterness but really really smooth mouthfeel and clean taste. Absolutely no alcohol detected in this big brew; it's really easy to drink.

P.S. I must say this beer has to be past its 3 mo. freshness mark, there was a hefty collection of particles floating about the bottom of the glass. I still really enjoyed the brew and drank it so fast. I look forward to picking up a fresh one if I can find it again around CA bay area.

Brilliant gold in color with a light bit of haziness. There's a quarter inch of brilliant white resting on top. Moderate lacing. Fresh smelling mosaic hops are present in full force along with some light malt. The taste is a fairly subdued blend of mosaic hops and light malt. The certainly drinks much lighter than the 8% ABV. The mouth is fairly crisp and refreshing for a double IPA! Very quaffable.

L: Pours hazy straw under a 3” persistent lacy off-white to cream foam collar.
S: Fruit, tropical fruit, a hint of mint. A trace of citrus.
T: A very creamy texture enhances the flavors and provides layers. Fruit, citrus, tropical fruit with some bread crumb are the main actors. Finishes with a lingering bitter hop accent that works very well with the fruit and malt flavors. The beer has above average hop derived fruit flavors, medium to medium low malt flavors, and a medium high herbal to quinine hop bitterness. Everything balances together very well.
F: Medium body and carbonation. Has a very creamy smooth body.
O: Glad I bought a 4-pack.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into an IPA glass.

Appearance: Pours a fairly hazy golden orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. Solid finger of white head which settles into a thin creamy patch.

Smell: A very juicy hop forward aroma with a scent of citrus fruit and pine. Big upfront scent of citrus hops with some grapefruit, mango, orange peel, apricot, lemon, and pineapple. Earthy hop hints of pine resin and grass. Light malt hints of caramel and grains along with some yeast. A really nice juicy aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a very juicy hop driven taste with notes of citrus fruit and pine. Big upfront juicy taste of citrus hops with notes of grapefruit, orange peel, mango, lemon, apricot, and pineapple. Earthy hop notes of pine resin and grass. Background malt notes of caramel and grains with some yeast and honey sweetness. A really good taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium to full bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Very juicy and smooth.

Overall: A great Double IPA. Big juicy citrus flavor with moderate bitterness.
