Orange, cloudy, funky wild raw taste and aroma that could only be described as rodent pheromone. Gose all the way. Hard find. Get it if you can. A bier only a Mutter could lieb.

Really quite balanced and delightful. Has zero head on it (could be the tap line), opaque burnt auburn hue. Has a delicious watermelon and spice nose which may be the coriander. Nice and sour up front. Makes you salivate and swash the deliciousness around. Had several beers in front of me and kept reaching for this one as did the others at the table!

"Gose." "Ale brewed with orange and coriander." Regrettably brief impressions from a bottle below:

APPEARANCE: Head easily fills up 95% of my glass even though I side-poured it pretty gently; I anticipate overcarbonation. Frothy and smooth. Lasts a good 8 minutes.

Body is a clear clean pale copper. No yeast/lees are visible within.

AROMA: Faint sourness. Wheat. Orange peel citrus. A hint of salt. Clove.

I find no overt coriander.

Aromatic intensity is below average. Mild yet pleasant and inviting.

TASTE: Has a slight sourness to it, but it's less than that observed in the best gosenbiere. Wheat malt at the core keeps it refreshing when paired with that lactobacillus twang and accompanying acidity.

Goes past mere orange peel into more of an orange creamsicle territory, though not to its detriment per se.

Hints of clove and salt keep it interesting, but there's no overt coriander.

Balanced and enjoyable, with nice depth of flavour. Flavour duration and intensity are average.

It's a well-built if somewhat basic gose.

TEXTURE: Smooth, wet, a little smacky, a little acidic, medium-bodied, somewhat refreshing. Overcarbonated.

OVERALL: Anderson Valley and Westbrook utilized more interesting adjuncts to make their gosenbiere memorable...Prairie's choice of orange has resulted in a beer that's easily bested by Anderson Valley's blood orange variant. With a more interesting fruit and more sourness and bacterial complexity this might be more interesting fare. As the formerly obscure gose style has taken off in the states, even a brewery as competent as Prairie has been left in the dust by the competition.

Certainly better than many attempts at the style out there (including even Bayerischer Bahnhof's, to Prairie's credit), but it isn't world-class and its high price (courtesy of the Shelton Bastards) will put off discerning drinkers given the relative lack of quality. Drinkable and above average, but ultimately underwhelming given the brewery behind it.

This beer pours a bright gold with a large head. The aroma has a salinity that is immediately present, as well as a citrus sourness, with touch of spice and malt sweetness. The flavor has a solid sweet sour balance, with a nice amount of malt and just a hint of coriander. It is overall rather reminiscent of a sour orange. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with light, fluffy carbonation. Overall this is a really tasty gose - not overly sour, nor overly spiced, but with a solid amount of salt, and a pleasant malty quality.

500 ml bottle. Pours clean golden with bubbly finger white head that lasts longer than expected, little lace. Mild tart aroma. Taste is clean n crisp, fruity and tart, on the verge of being cidery. A little saltiness and pepper in the finish. Refreshing gose.
