Pours with kind of an oily appearance, deep brown. Minimal head as expected given the ABV.

Nose is toffee, coffee, burnt sugar, heat from the booze.

Flavor is surprisingly sweet in an enjoyable way. You can really taste the whiskey barrels, coffee, slightly bitter finish.

Great body, feels better than it looks.

Would certainly enjoy this again.

real solid beer, i always thought the base beer sort of needed something, and i guess this is it. it still seems a little thin in body for what it is, and maybe a little too sweet, never thought these kinds of beers were what prairie does best, but its very good, and the coffee is a real nice addition. the chocolate notes in the base brown are more robust then i remember them, and the bourbon is front and center as well, vanilla and toffee notes, plenty of oak. the coffee is as sweet as it is bitter it seems, like some sweet creamer was added to it or something. its not out of place though, and it helps add smoothness to the feel. i am always amazed how well some of these prairie beers hide their booze. this is strong for sure, but that its as high as 13% abv is a surprise to me, it doesnt seem much higher than 8% or so. carbonation is high for the style, which i like, it keeps it moving. in the end, the coffee is nice because it adds some depth, but i could see this being even better with more coffee in it. crank it up a notch for the next batch i reckon!

12 fl oz bottle sealed with catfish logo pressure cap.

poured into my favorite Crooked Stave glass.

Appearance: muddled dark brown to light black bodied beer with thick cap of khaki head. Head relinquishes to a thick collar around the outside of the glass. Definite boozy legs on the glass with each sip. Not much lacing left from the head of the beer.

Smell: bourbon, caramel, vanilla, toffee, brown sugar, and nice deep woody barrel note are the culmination of malt profile and barrel aging. Slightly acrid and quite nutty espresso. The coffee is in good balance with the malt and barrel influences, but slightly weaker. This smells outstanding!

Taste: Big flavorful dessert beer with a finish of light lingering bitterness and a slight dryness, thanks to that coffee. Aroma is pretty spot on with the flavor profile with many added nuances. Premium bourbon, lots of caramel, toffee, brown sugar, and maple syrup imparting plenty of richness to the beer. The vanilla comes across almost as creamer in a cup of premium coffee. A nice deep woody and earthy barrel note adds dryness with the bitterness of the coffee. The coffee tastes so acrid and roasted that it almost has a minuscule hint of sourness about it; and not in an "infected and something is wrong with this beer" kind of way. The coffee tastes authentic and fresh; nothing artificial about this coffee flavor. As this beer warms up the coffee gets really nutty and hazelnuts start to surface and become a prominent flavor. This is a pretty exceptional beer with non-stop complexity!

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer with low carbonation. The beer comes across as slightly syrupy, but there is enough carbonation to break it up enough to stay away from being cloying. For a 13% beer this drinks well below its listed ABV. I would guess 10% on the high side without knowing the ABV. It is a sipper because of the richness present in the beer, but you could still drink this way faster than you should.

Overall: A bourbon barrel aged brown ale with coffee! I can only think of one other beer like it; Founders Bourbon Barrel Brown Sumatra and that beer was insanely good. Well... Coffee Okie is just as insanely good as Founder Bourbon Barrel Brown Sumatra! Atleast as well as I can remember from KBS day 2012. In all honestly, it really reminds me a lot of that Founders beer and how outstanding it was that glorious day that I drank it for the first an only time. Really really stellar use of coffee and barrel aging with an imperial brown ale by Prairie! More breweries should try to make brown ales like this because they would be an instant hit. For example, If Surly would barrel age an imperial version of coffee bender that beer would be so legit!

A - dark opaque brown color, off white head dissipates quick but leaves spotty lacing and a nice film of bubbles on top
S - coffee, sweet cream, vanilla, chocolate, some whiskey, some bourbon, nothing that blows me out of the water
T - coffee, whiskey, molasses, vanilla, chocolate, toffee, butterscotch, oak, little boozy with a sweet alcohol finish, some dark cherry and figs too
M - medium, little thin for such a big beer, alcohol is present which is understandable at 13%, aftertaste is caramel, vanilla, toffee, oak
O - pretty good. Not as amazing as I thought it would be. It's kind of on par with dragons milk with coffee and chocolate

L - Very dark with a thin white head

S - Good complexity, caramel, coffee, oak, vanilla

T - even better than the smell, it's also a lot about caramel, nuts (hazelnut and chestnut), oak, vanilla, coffee, some sweetness and bourbon with a nice balance

M - low carbonation, nice mouthfeel but could be better

O - a wonderful beer, not a brown ale nor an imperial stout, it's quite unique. It's bold and strong but not boozy. It has all the good aspect of great double stout without the roasted characteristics but with some nice caramel and nutty notes

Bottle purchased at Nathaniel Square Corner Store in Rochester, NY.

This one pours a murky, syrupy looking brown, with a very small head, and essentially no lacing.

Smells like vanilla, whiskey, hazelnut, creamy coffee, and caramel.

This is delicious and a definite improvement over regular Okie, which was really good to begin with. The coffee flavor is bold but creamy, and fairly nutty. It kind of reminds me of coffee with a ton of hazelnut creamer. There's some vanilla, a bit of oak, and a subtle level of whiskey, with some typical caramel and toffee brown ale characteristics. It's definitely sweet, but not fatiguing at all. It's just so decadent and delicious.

This is medium bodied, a tiny bit syrupy and mostly creamy, and a lower but acceptable level of carbonation. It's a slow sipper due to the intense flavors.

This is really excellent, possibly the best Prairie beer I've ever had.

Appearance: Pours coffee brown with a hardly any head to speak of and what arrives quickly fades to a ringlet; a few dots of lacing hang around

Smell: Tremendous depth of coffee tones tempered by whiskey; the wood really comes through on the aromatics

Taste: Chocolate and coffee forward, with the Bourbon and oak flavors building through the middle; quite boozy, particularly after the swallow, with the whiskey really being assertive in the aftertaste

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with low carbonation; a lot of heat

Overall: This beer make take some time to come together but right now it is a rowdy teenager of a beer; a bit too sweet for my palate and the ABV is not hidden at all; I would much prefer to smell it than drink it

Flat and dark brown, with no persistent foam. Lots of vanilla toffee and oak with little coffee in the aroma. The coffee comes out a bit more in the flavor with a bit of sweetness and a thin body. There is a kind of lingering cola character that keeps the overall from ever quite being able to live up to the aroma.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 12/2/2015. Pours clear nearly opaque dark brown color with a small dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a spotty lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of huge nutty dark roasted coffee, chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, toasted bread, vanilla, cream, oak, bourbon, light dark fruit, and oak/toasted earthiness. Fantastic aromas with awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, coffee, and bourbon barrel notes; with great strength. Some light booze appears in the aroma as it warms. Taste of huge nutty dark roasted coffee, chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, toasted bread, vanilla, cream, oak, bourbon, light dark fruit, and oak/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate bourbon/oak spiciness and roasted coffee bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of coffee, chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, toasted bread, vanilla, cream, bourbon, oak, light dark fruit, and oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, coffee, and bourbon barrel flavors; with a great malt/bitter/spiciness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a creamy and lightly sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is fairly well hidden with a light-moderate warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is an incredible barrel aged imperial brown ale style. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, coffee, and bourbon barrel flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the huge ABV. The coffee character is enormous in this beer, lending a lot of earthy/light fruity character; with a great balance of the dark malt and barrel notes. A highly enjoyable offering.

I really wish there was a rating for labels, because (call me a philistine if you will) a lot of times I buy a beer based on the label. This one is colorful, cartoon art-y and distinctly Prairie. The guy who buys beer at Gus's Market in SF buys Prairie ales based on the labels so I know I'm not the only one who's like this!

Head: minimal
Pours: sumptuous black
Tastes: smooth and boozy

P.S. I don't understand what's going on with the artwork in this label at all. It's a bunch of cowboy boots but one has a mini-TV coming out of it, another has a faucet, another has a compact with a grinning face in the mirror... WTF? If anyone can offer an explanation please chime in

355ml bottle poured into a snifter

A- pours a murky dark brown with nearly no head at all, leaving just a think ring of foam around the edge of the glass

S- aroma is predominately coffee and bourbon. Take a fresh roasted coffee, pour in a shot of bourbon, add a bit of vanilla sweetness.

T- plenty of bourbon up front, along with some woodsy oak barrel & vanilla sweetness. The coffee hits mid-palate and gives some espresso-like notes, along with some nuttiness, reminiscent of hazelnut. The finish is slightly sweet, with some caramel notes, along with more coffee and bourbon

M- medium body with medium carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel and a slightly warming finish

O- coffee and bourbon throughout, a nice sipper, although I prefer regular Okie
