Drank from a 12 fl. oz. bottle purchased at Craft Beer Cellar, Belmont, MA
11.10.2021
Served in a tulip
The beer poured a super dense and glossy, absolute pitch black. A thick, frothy, burnt umber colored crown topped the body, but it quickly dissolved. The resulting liquid looked shimmery and viscous, like used motor oil.
The aroma was outstanding. Marshmallow and coconut notes came through big time. Loads of rich cocoa as well. Some chocolate fudge perhaps too. Vanilla was also quite apparent. There was a rich buttery quality and a sweet booziness that was likely a result of the rum barrel aging. Overall, quite sweet, though not excessively so for the style.
The flavor profile was also impressive but not quite as good as the nose. Malty and robust up front. Nice melding of caramel and roasted malt notes. Coconut appeared next. Good dose of cacao and vanilla too. Boozy rum barrel notes kicked in hard as the beer moved along the palate and really intensified on the back end and the finish. Raisins were also apparent. Rum raisin perhaps. Touch of lingering roast and oaky barrel after the swallow.
Excellent rich, creamy, full bodied mouthfeel. A super fine, subtle effervescence made the liquid feel fluffy and slick on the palate. Toward the drink’s end, the sugars in the beer left a slightly sticky film on my lips.
Pirate Weekend is a big, rich, boozy whopper of a stout that prominently featured each of the adjuncts listed on the label. Prairie’s imperial stouts often have a tendency to be somewhat thinner in body, but that definitely was not the case here.

Pours pure black with little carbonation or head. Aroma is deeply rum and ABV (beware all who enter), with notes of coconut. Taste is dense with chocolate and rum all throughout. You will get a nice warmth from the ABV. Do bring a spoon, as this is intensely dense.

12oz stubby bottle. Date stamp on bottle neck is squished so that the full date is unreadable.
Black colored body, with red mahogany back lit edge. One finger of fizzy brown head which quickly disappears, leaving a few rising bubble fed islands and a thin ring. No lacing.
Aroma is intense, with rum barrel, chocolate, and marshmallow.
Taste is heavy with the rum barrel. Also has flavors of dark roasted malts, chocolate, vanilla, marshmallow, and dark fruit. The coconut only comes out as a residual in the mouth. Aftertaste evaporates away.
Medium mouth feel. High level of vapors from the higher ABV%, and minor tongue sting. Supportive carbonation.
Lots of rum barrel in this one, and a good contribution from the cacao/chocolate.

Prairie Artisan Ales does "big beers" about as well as anyone!!! This one was no exception!!! Poured from a stubby 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass, this beer featured a dense black color and a small dark tan/brown head that faded fast. No lacing on the glass. This is pretty normal for a beer of this strength. Aroma and taste were excellent. Rich bready malt, the rum barrel smell and flavoring, some chocolate and vanilla and a good deal of coconut were very prominent. There appeared to be a little dark fruit in the background too. Mouthfeel was mostly smooth and rich, but there was a bit of alcohol "burn" in the finish to go along with the more dominant alcohol warming effect. This is a teriffic beer!!

L: Dark black poured from a 12oz into a sniffer. Not much head risen nor signs of lacing.
S: Smelling the rum barrels for sure along with coconut, chocolate, slight vanilla, cacao nibs. Didn't get much marshmallows here.
T: Wow. Good. So good. You get the rum barrels with a mix of chocolate, coconut, slight vanilla, cacao nibs as said in the description. Picking up some dark fruit in the middle here too. Well done Prarie.
F: Easy to drink, full bodied, thick, might be a sipper for someone new to stouts/ barrel aged stouts.
O: I had this before but had to retry it and rate it and it's even better then before in my opinion. Definitely worth a try if you see it.

The beer is a black color with a small, quickly disappearing head. No lace.
Aroma of booze, chocolate, coconut, and vanilla.
Taste follows nose. Rum, chocolate/chocolate fudge, coconut, sweet vanilla.
A big beer. Sip carefully.

Beautifully dark, beautifully boozy to the nose, and beautifully think on the tongue. As a Prairie offering it was truly delicious.
