L: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had a jet black color and a thick, opaque consistency. There was a half inch of foamy, tan-colored head that lasted a below average amount of time. Not much lacing to speak of.

S: A very enticing aroma of coffee, malt, hazelnuts, chocolate, vanilla, and caramel.

T: Tasted of a fair amount of hazelnuts (just enough), a good shot of dark chocolate (quite sweet), a tinge of caramel (clings to the palate), a hint of vanilla (fleeting), a fair bit of coffee, and roasted malt (present throughout). A robust, well-balanced, and well done flavor. All of the ingredients get a good showing. Delicious.

F: An average amount of carbonation with a silky smooth finish. Medium- to full-bodied.

O: A truly enjoyable stout. Drinkable.

Appearance is very dark brown with a very thin head and no lacing. Aroma is a bit nutty, but no hint of coffee. Taste is also nutty and mildly sweet, with a nice coffee finish. Body seems just a bit thin. There is some alcohol heat on the swallow.

Bottled on 10/14/19

Pours a vivid, oily jet black body topped with a ⅓ of a finger of deep khaki foam disappearing as quickly as it forms to a fast-receding frothy collar, a large, paper-thin island of cap, and no lacing.

Aromas open with an effortless mingling of hazelnut and vanilla perking into fresh coffee; vanilla wafer and underlying roast are subtle but increasingly prominent, and round out an easygoing nutty sweetness to the bouquet as a whole.

Taste features semi-bitter coffee upfront with hazelnut coursing through the background accented with touches of butterscotch; a combination of vanilla wafer and bakers chocolate appear over the mid-palate as a creamy sweetness develops on the finish.

Mouthfeel brings a medium-thick body with minimal carbonation and a creaminess amplifying over the mid-palate; an oily quality coats the mouth briefly before roasty, easy bittersweetness dries with a slight char and a touch of booze hits at the very back end of the finish.

While this can easily be construed as a one-dimensional stout, a flowing display of bittersweet hazelnut balances with ease and synchronizes enough with roasty coffee to never become cloying while contributing enough detail to appreciate the steady balance of the nutty tones coursing through this one. A great example of a sweeter stout that isn't just overtaken by sweetness.

Pours jet black with no light getting thru,a thin deep beige head atop that is gone in a flash.Charred coffee roast and some of the hazelnut come thru in the nose, not overly sweet with light vanilla lingering.A mix of dark fruits, bitter chocolate, mild Nutella, and deeply roasted coffee on the palate with a bit of char in the finish,it's pretty bold up front then kinda lingers afterwards. It's just really good with no flaws hence the nice score across the boards here.

Poured from the bottle into a tulip.

The beer pours the expected blackish brown color with good head retention and lacing. As is so often the case with these Prairie "Bomb variants," the beer looks viscous and attractive sitting in the glass. On the nose, Prairie really nailed the hazelnut aroma. I'm picking up considerable hazelnut, dark chocolate, vanilla, butter and light coffee. It's really quite attractive. The flavor profile replicates the nose pretty closely in this delicious, sweet imperial stout, though I seem to be picking up just a hint of heat from chili peppers on the finish. It helps to tame the sweetness a bit and keeps it from becoming too cloying on the palate. Mouthfeel is fairly soft and smooth, with a long finish. Alcohol is very well integrated into the flavor profile, though you can certainly tell that the abv. is up there a bit.

Impressive beer. Another excellent effort from the folks at Prairie. I quite like this one (though have learned not to drink this too late in the evening, as the sugar and coffee can sometimes screw up my sleep pattern).

Hazelnut, big time... Maybe a smidge too big, at the expense of other notes.

Poured hard from a bottle into a snifter glass, forming less than a finger of brown head that faded soon to a ring of lacing. Deep brown/black color. Smells strongly of hazelnut with just a hint of coffee. Taste is very similar, with strong malty hazelnut and just a hint of coffee. No bitterness, just a bit of sweetness, and not too syrupy. Not quite thick bodied with moderate carbonation. Definitely one of my favorite Prairie stouts and my favorite hazelnut flavored so far. Another excellent one from Prairie, just wish they weren't so darn expensive!

Always look forward to a new Prairie stout (or an old one for that matter) that reaches MN. 12 oz. bottle.

It’s black. Why do we have to say that for stouts? They all bloody look the same. It’s like trying to describe different Kit Kats. The nose is sweet malts & hazelnut, with only a ghost of roast.

Screenshot boasts some aggressive filbert nuts. Hazelnut for furlongs, which leaves the rest of the beer & it’s additions in the dust. The coffee comes across as cool, distant roast with a thousand yard stare, brown sugar, with a smidgen of cocoa on the end. Full. Thick. Up to Prairie standards there. Especially at the price point, one bottle will do me.

This creation would be right at home as a hazelnut addition at Starbucks, you know, to make your coffee taste less like coffee. A good beer – but I except better from Prairie.

This one pours a very dark brown, almost black color, with a small head, and not much lacing.

This smells pretty sweet, with coffee, caramel, chocolate, and molasses, and just a hint of roast.

This is very fudgy, and very sweet. I don't get a ton of hazelnut, unfortunately, just sweet coffee creamer type flavors, along with caramel and molasses and other very sweet flavors. This is definitely tasty, but it feels a little messy. I definitely would prefer to have some hazelnut in here.

This is thick, and kind of syrupy, and just a bit flabby. It doesn't have too much booziness, at least.

I wanted to like this one a lot more. It was still worth a try, but I won't be looking out for it again.

Poured into a 16 oz Snulip glass. Pours pitch black with a 2 finger mocha head that leaves a few thin streaks of lace as in quickly settles into a thick ring around the sides of the glass. 4.25

Smell is hazelnut, coffee grounds, vanilla bean, cocoa, and a hint of alcohol. 4.5

Taste follows huge massive hazelnut, coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla, and some hits of alcohol in the big bold finish. 4.25

Mouthfeel is bigger than average, gentle carbonation, a touch dry as expected, and at 11.0% ABV it goes down rather easy. 4.25

Overall this is yet another tasty treat from this place. A great sipper on a cold winters night. 4.25

Jet black with a very slow building dark mocha foam. No lace.
Rich aromas of hazelnut, toasted coconut, and chocolate.
Flavors are the same, lingering bitter dark chocolate, hazelnut coffee.
Bold and medium bodied, slight astringent bite, bittersweet, dry finish.
Overall it packs a punch, full of dark chocolate and hazelnut.
