Weekend - Bourbon Barrel-AgedWeekend - Bourbon Barrel-Aged
Notes: Bourbon barrel-aged stout with toasted coconut, chocolate, and marshmallow. We took our stout base and added lots of sweet notes with toasted coconut, chocolate and marshmallows. With the added depth of flavor from aging it in bourbon barrels, this beer is sure to be a crowd pleaser.

12oz bottle poured into a snifter
Bottled 12/20

A- pours jet black in color with a one-finger foamy khaki head that reduces to a ring around the edge

S- initial aroma gives bold notes of milk chocolate and coconut, followed by marshmallow and vanilla bean quickly following. Undertones of bourbon barrel seem to enhance the vanilla and marshmallow, as well as adding oak, barrel juice and caramel

T- sweet and malty up front with bold notes of chocolate, followed by creamy marshmallow, vanilla beans and fresh coconut. Mid-palate gives some brownie batter before giving way to oaky barrel, which adds bourbon, caramel and more vanilla. The finish gives more bold chocolate, with a linger of bourbon, vanilla and coconut

M- heavy body with moderate carbonation leads to a creamy mouthfeel that continues into a chewy, slightly warming finish

O- bold, complex and a slow sipper, fantastic

The addition of just the right amount of bourbon barrel taste really improves the base Weekend stout and makes it less cloyingly sweet and more interesting and well rounded. The marshmallow is fantastic, cocoa nibs, hint of chili. Really fantastic overall.

With the exception of no head in the pour, this is a stellar BB aged stout.
Dark chocolate brown in a Stone RIS glass with no head.
Wonderful aroma of vanilla, chocolate, and marshmallow.
Very smooth and viscous MF. Not always the case with BBS.
The taste transitions well from the aroma with marshmallow, chocolate and vanilla.
Smooth finish.
One of the best beers alive tasted from the brewer.

12oz bottle. Bottle neck is stamped for bottling date as '04.13.2022'.
Black colored body. Thin light brown colored head, which quickly recedes to a partial cap. No lacing.
Aroma is quite strong and expresses as advertised: fudge chocolate, marshmallow, vanilla, and caramel. The coconut is faint. Wafting with alcohol is the bourbon barrel.
Taste is sweet with fudge chocolate, marshmallow, and vanilla/caramel. The caramel is solid. The coconut emerges towards the end, with a taste similar to an Almond Joy bar. The bourbon barrel comes in strong at the very end and into the aftertaste.
Initial mouth feel impression is thin but the pass through is more medium. Supportive carbonation. No real alcohol burn but the higher ABV% is clearly evident.
Impression of a candy bar soaked in bourbon. Very expressive and quite tasty. Sip slowly.

poured from a 12oz bottle into a CW snifter. pours a shiny black with a thin mocha brown cap that fades into a similar colored ring around the edge of the glass. bourbon, oak, coconut, vanilla cream frosting and even a touch of molasses. taste follows with neither element dominating. it’s just an extremely well balanced barrel-aged adjuncted imperial stout. full mouthfeel. as with most prairie in my experience, it loses some mouthfeel as it warms so i drank this a little cooler than most stouts to start. overall, it’s way too drinkable for 14%. a decadent yet flavorful and rich imperial stout with nice bourbon barrel attributes. again, it’s not a barrel showcase, nor is it an adjunct showcase. they all just play so well off each other.

This big ol’ stout pours black with mahogany brown on the edges and a minimal tan head that flees the premises like it’s stealing something. The nose has some bourbon, loads of cocoa and coconut, a little vanilla that may be marshmallow, and more booze. Very nice.

The taste is led by the cocoa and coconut and leans to the sweeter/pastry side, which fits my palate really well, and there’s a big dollop of booze from the barrel, which actually helps balance the sweetness.

The mouthfeel is rich and creamy, perfect for this beer. I’ve been a Prairie Big Stout fan for a decade or so, and this beer fits their branding/model really well, IMHO.

Bottle states that it’s a bourbon barrel aged stout with cacao nibs, toasted coconut, marshmallow flavor, vanilla and caramel color. It pours as black as ink with a small foamy brown head that faded quickly and left minimal spotty lacing. Smells of bourbon, soy sauce, molasses, brown sugar, smoked grains, vanilla, caramel, dark chocolate, cocoa powder, Merlot, oak barrels and bakers chocolate. Rich, boozy and complex aroma.

Tastes very much like it smells with dark chocolate, cocoa powder, vanilla, Merlot, bourbon, soy sauce, molasses, brown sugar, smoked grains, charred oak barrels, dark fruit, booze like dark rum, bakers chocolate and some toasted coconut as it fades. Not overly sweet even with the chocolate flavors dominating the brew, it works as all the components balance each other out.

Mouthfeel is chewy and thick with a dense creamy feel that slides down easy with a mild bitterness and not much alcohol burn. It went down a lot smoother than expected.

Pours a deep dark brown to black color with a thin layer of head. The nose is candied with a faint trace of bourbon. The flavor tastes like molasses blended with melted Chocolate Twizzlers.

This is overly sweet and not terribly impressive especially considering the price tag.

Bottle pour- used motor oil in a glass, not much of a head, same for lacing. Nose is a boozy candy bar. Taste follows with barrel wood notes. Candy sweet booze lingers on the finish. Tasty AF.

Look: very dark. Nary a highlight even held to light. Modest mocha head. Oily sheen coats the inside of the glass with every sip.
Smell: rich cocoa. Subtle coconut.
Taste: like the nose. Very rich semi sweet chocolate.

Purchased at Dominion Wine & Beer for $12.99 12oz bottle. 14.2% ABV. Bottled 11/21/2020. Poured into a small-stemmed tulip.

After reading the label, this beer was more balanced than anticipated. A real sipper of a beer. The barrel-aging is there but does not manifest itself in the usual ways. As noted below there is less alcohol and more barrel flavors. An unusual beer, a heavy beer, but one that is balanced enough to drink slowly over a period of time. 4.0

A – Pours viscous, opaque, oily black with a very thin dark reddish-brown head that disappears quickly to almost nothing. Good viscosity on the glass. No lacing. Almost still. 3.75

S – Aromas of brown sugar, vanilla, hot pepper spiciness, cinnamon, and sweetness. 3.75

T – Sweet, molasses, brown sugar, faint cinnamon, no obvious heat from the spice or the alcohol. The alcohol is well hidden. Roasted malts but not burnt. No bitterness. The coconut seems to contribute to the sweetness but otherwise not obvious to me. No chocolate evident, unless you count the vanilla and sweetness. 4.0

MF – Heavy body, slick but not coating, with a sweet balanced finish. Warming!!! But not hot. 3.75
