12 ounce bottle, bottled on 10.25.2021. Label says 13.4% ABV. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about a half inch tan head that fizzled away pretty quickly. Not much lacing at all. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like vanilla, roasted malt, chocolate, bourbon and caramel. For the most part I think the taste is similar to the aroma, but there's also some oak, burnt/charred malt, dark bread, molasses and brown sugar flavors. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's coating and a bit syrupy with a low amount of carbonation. I liked this brew, worth picking up if you like stouts and/or Prairie's stouts in general.

Idk I just like other ones I've had better, this was good just really boring. It's all there as advertised I just found myself thoroughly unimpressed.

Vanilla for days -- this beer was in the lead for us against Prairie's Sunday Service, but at the end the Sunday Service beat Double Vanilla Noir by a hair. Double Vanilla took the lead early with its glorious vanilla bean smell and soft vanilla bean taste fused into their great stout base. Double Vanilla Noir is a world class beer out of Prairie. We raved about Double Vanilla for the couple hours we had it open. It didn't hold up as well over that time period as Sunday Service -- but over the first hour of drinking - Double Vanilla Noir was clearly in the lead. This masterclass beer will not disappoint.

Bottled on 10/22/21. Purchased at Dominion Wine & Beer for $12.99. Poured into a small stemmed tulip.

A - pours midnight black with reddish highlight and thick with no head but a few bubbles around the edge of the glass. Good viscosity on the glass.

S - The barrel sports/alcohol comes first quickly followed by vanilla and then brown sugar sweetness.

T - Not as much spirits as in the nose. Actually very little alcohol. Roasted malts and lots of vanilla but not excessive. Some brown sugar sweetness.

MF - Medium heavy body but still easy drinking with a sweet but not excessively sweet finish. Very smooth but not slick with alcohol. No alcohol bite in the finish. Warming but not as much as you might think based on the aroma.

I generally love the stouts Prairie produces and I enjoyed this but, for me, it was good but not as good as I have come to expect from one of my Bucket List breweries. I little to strong an alcohol taste for me. I would, however, be likely to buy another one to double check my review. hee. Hee.

The beer is pitch black with a modest orange/tan head that disappears quickly.
Aroma of chocolate and vanilla.
The taste follows the nose, chocolate and vanilla.
Medium-bodied, alcohol not noticeable at all.

Pours a rich dark color and smells of vanilla and a little chocolate. Being a big 'Bomb' fan I miss the coffee and the heat. It tastes very good and has an almost thin mouthfeel and alcohol is barely noticeable. Overall, very tasty but my 'Bomb' is the King. Bottle dated 10/22/2021. It's warm now and at the bottom we get the rich oily part and the alcohol. It's starting to taste like Whiskey in the glass. I think this is a BIG plus and I'll be editing my rating accordingly. That oily alcohol lingering on the tongue is pretty awesome. Sweet and sticky.

Pours inky black thick heavy black beer with very little head, long legs

Nose brings fair vanilla, earthy raw vanilla and a fruity vanilla thing, plenty of roast, dark chocolate, moist chocolate cake with vanilla frosting, Vienna finger cookies soaked in espresso

Taste rich vanilla and chocolate, cocoa, more moist chocolate cake with vanilla frosting, fair sweetness, dark chocolate fudge, a bit of roast with espresso and a bit of cookie, a bit of French vanilla, little bitterness, very smooth and tasty, touch of smooth perfumey alcohol, mild sticky sweet finish

Mouth is full bod, rich heavy but smooth, light alcohol warmth, low carb

Overall nice, very smooth and easy drinking for how heavy it is and alcohol level, big vanilla not as much as I expected but balanced well

Hi. I just sent in a quick review on the Prairie vanilla noir, but should have been for the Double Vanilla Noir. If could be corrected, much appreciated!

Had on tap. Shimmering black with a brown ring. Vanilla bomb in smell and taste, to the point of overwhelming the barrel and everything in the taste. The nose is more what I hoped it would be with the oak taking on the vanilla nicely, and the whiskey brown sugar nature bonding in. Feel is hot with booze though, vanilla washing over doesn't change that, thin for style but hey it is smooth.

Modest head production; poor retention, unsurprising given the ABV and style.

Very rich nose of moderate strength. I notice the bourbon and a touch of sharp booze first, but subsequent sniffs reveal very clearly the vanilla's contribution to the rich and deep palette.

Easily as rich on the palate. Vanilla features prominently but not obnoxiously, along with chocolate, bourbon, oak, caramel, molasses, and coffee. Stronger bourbon hit around mid sip, with a very noticeable mash. Raisin, oak, chocolate, nuts, and molasses on the finish.

Thick and smooth; not exactly chewy. Very drinkable. The alcohol heat shows pretty assertively, reminding you to sip slowly and savor, but it's neither harsh nor aggressive.

12oz poured into a stemmed Prairie glass; dark, slick opaque pour with a marginal dark brown head that fizzed quickly away. As expected, enormous impression of vanilla on the nose and first taste, but with a welcome character of fudgy brownie...sips two and three take off in a far different direction though. The middle of this beer is really its boozy character and a truck load of dark fruits (raisins and prunes), which both remind me a lot of Black Tuesday/the Bruery. I guessed 14% abv blind and I was not far off. As this brew finally hits room temperature, it really becomes fully well-rounded and finally enjoyable, the boozy character falls away slightly and the vanilla, chocolate brownie, and dark fruit character seem to mesh on the palate. I would say overall that it is a GOOD but not GREAT brew.

This was easily the worst beer I had at Chicago’s FOBAB in November, so of course I ran out & bought a 12 oz. bottle. This hobby makes fools of many of us. Or maybe just me.

Black black with a sliver of cardboard head ringing the edges of the glass. Big nose notes: vanilla, whiskey, booze. Makes sense.

Double Vanilla Noir swirls about the palate like a Finnegan’s Wake word salad. Many layered, for you illiterates. Vanilla hits hard but the sweetness is cut by a shot of Four Horsemen which lends a helping hand of serious alcohol to the beer; borderline burn on the downslope. Behind the serious veil are smaller helpings of chocolate, roast, & a finishing touch of fig & whole milk. Thick. Filling. Twelves ounces is plenty.

This is neither the train wreck I tasted two months ago nor the heights that Prairie has scaled with some of its marvelous beers. Very good.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing opaque black in the glass with a thin dark khaki head that dissipates to patches with light lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, cocoa, vanilla and a touch of coffee; a bit boozy. Flavor of dark toasted malt, dark chocolate, concentrated raisins, bourbon, vanilla and a hint of coffee. Dark fruit, vanilla and chocolate in the somewhat hot finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A very rich, full flavored barreled stout. The profile is much like a blended strong ale, with more dark fruit character than expected from a stout; probably due to the barreling, which seems like bourbon barrels (label doesn't say). The vanilla flavor is authentic tasting, but at a perfect low to moderate concentration that melds with the other flavors beautifully. Flavor is fantastic from start to lingering finish, even with a bit of alcohol burn. I expect the best from Prairie stouts and this one more than pleased me. I almost didn't try this one, mistaking "double vanilla" with quantity, rather than two types of vanilla. Glad I read it, the vanilla is deftly handled and blended. An excellent big stout.

Lackluster head on a fairly forceful pour was the only downside here. Has the smell of marshmallow fluff and molasses, which is identical to the taste. Maybe add a hint more vanilla in the taste. Cozies right up to the edge of being too sweet without crossing the line. Mouthfeel is probably the best single quality, as its reasonably thick and very silky

From the 12 oz bottle in a snifter. This monster pours a dark oil slick
black with a quickly dissipating head of foam that sizzles to a thin brown
ring....give it a swirl and we are presented with some nice legs. Nose of
dark chocolate, rich vanilla, bourbon, and dark raisin notes. Flavors hit
the standard moniker of Prairie imperial stouts-----excellent! Dark chocolate,
raisin, bourbon, rich vanilla, light oak, dark coffee hints, cream, brulee, char,
and deep roasted goodness. Nice mouth feel; full body, smooth, slick, coating,
warming, faint carbonation, and a sweet without being overly cloying finish
that is lightly dry.

Overall, another great little brew from a fantastic brewery

Cheers

Pours an effervescent mahogany with one finger of fast falling caramel colored head. Some lacing & head retention, very viscous

S: Dark fruit, a little Bourbon, figs, nose just build as this warms

T: Dark chocolate, Bourbon, plenty of vanilla up front, a little bit of dates as well up front. Vanilla. Bourbon burn, leafy hops & dark chocolate covered coconut once warm. Finishes with caramel, vanilla, oaky dryness & a little dark chocolate

MF: Fairly chewy body, low carbonation, very warming

Nice offering, $ 14 a 12 0unce bottle, glad I got to try it, a sipper

12 oz bottle , can’t find a bottling date, poured into a tulip glass. Pitch black, an instantly disappearing head. The aroma is chocolate vanilla bourbon. Nuts. Taste is right in line. No sign of the heat. Right on the edge of being two sweet. Very well balanced. The mouthfeel is medium, not overly heavy, but still substantial. Low amount of carbonation. Quality is never a question with Prairie, it’s ultimately whether you are good with the price.

Nice stout from Prairie, unsurprisingly, but not in their top tier. Super inky, but not massive body, which actually aided drinkability. Just too much vanilla, which seems silly to say in a "double vanilla" stout, but it was a little out of whack and too much like (really high quality, Nielsen Massey type) vanilla extract. There are some bottles of this sitting around my area so knowing me I will inevitably buy this again and it will be interesting to see how this evolves after some time. Current review of a bottle I drank in November shortly after initial release.

This actually tasted just like vanilla noir to me, heavy vanilla aroma, decent barrel and bourbon presence. Definitely a pastry stout, I would have to have them side by side in order to tell the difference.

Poured from a bottle into a tulip glass. Oily dark brown color with brief brown head and minimal lacing. Strong smell and taste of vanilla and dark chocolate. Some dark berries and a bit of cappuccino. Was expecting a bit fuller feel. Overall, a great after hockey beer!
