A - Dark brown pour with soapy, toffee colored lacing and no carbonation.

S - Nice roasted cocoa, chocolate, vanilla, and a slight bit of booziness.

T - Roasted cocoa, alcohol, some oak, alcohol, vanilla, and alcohol...with some more alcohol boozyness. Lingering cocoa char, vanilla, and a warm throat after the sip.

M - Big thick, syrupy velvet-like texture with big warming in the back of the throat.

O - The booziness competes with the overall profile of the beer but is still enjoyable.

Pours an effervescent mahogany with one finger of fast falling caramel colored head. Some lacing & head retention, very viscous

S: Dark fruit, a little Bourbon, figs, nose just build as this warms

T: Dark chocolate, Bourbon, plenty of vanilla up front, a little bit of dates as well up front. Vanilla. Bourbon burn, leafy hops & dark chocolate covered coconut once warm. Finishes with caramel, vanilla, oaky dryness & a little dark chocolate

MF: Fairly chewy body, low carbonation, very warming

Nice offering, $ 14 a 12 0unce bottle, glad I got to try it, a sipper

12 ounce bottle, bottled on 10.25.2021. Label says 13.4% ABV. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about a half inch tan head that fizzled away pretty quickly. Not much lacing at all. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like vanilla, roasted malt, chocolate, bourbon and caramel. For the most part I think the taste is similar to the aroma, but there's also some oak, burnt/charred malt, dark bread, molasses and brown sugar flavors. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's coating and a bit syrupy with a low amount of carbonation. I liked this brew, worth picking up if you like stouts and/or Prairie's stouts in general.

12 oz bottle , can’t find a bottling date, poured into a tulip glass. Pitch black, an instantly disappearing head. The aroma is chocolate vanilla bourbon. Nuts. Taste is right in line. No sign of the heat. Right on the edge of being two sweet. Very well balanced. The mouthfeel is medium, not overly heavy, but still substantial. Low amount of carbonation. Quality is never a question with Prairie, it’s ultimately whether you are good with the price.

Nice stout from Prairie, unsurprisingly, but not in their top tier. Super inky, but not massive body, which actually aided drinkability. Just too much vanilla, which seems silly to say in a "double vanilla" stout, but it was a little out of whack and too much like (really high quality, Nielsen Massey type) vanilla extract. There are some bottles of this sitting around my area so knowing me I will inevitably buy this again and it will be interesting to see how this evolves after some time. Current review of a bottle I drank in November shortly after initial release.

This actually tasted just like vanilla noir to me, heavy vanilla aroma, decent barrel and bourbon presence. Definitely a pastry stout, I would have to have them side by side in order to tell the difference.

Poured from a bottle into a tulip glass. Oily dark brown color with brief brown head and minimal lacing. Strong smell and taste of vanilla and dark chocolate. Some dark berries and a bit of cappuccino. Was expecting a bit fuller feel. Overall, a great after hockey beer!

12oz bottle poured into a snifter

A- pours jet black in color with a one-finger foamy khaki head that reduces to leave nothing behind

S- plenty of vanilla bean on the nose, complimented by a strong bourbon barrel note. Undertones of char, peanut shell, caramel, molasses, chocolate and campfire ash

T- bold vanilla up front compliments a boozy malty sweetness that adds chocolate and dark fruits. Mid-palate brings out wet oak and barrel juice, as well as caramel and toffee. The finish gives more vanilla, as well as caramel and bourbon

M- medium body with moderate carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel that turns slightly creamy finish

O- the vanilla really comes through on this one, wit plenty of barrel to boot, well done

Pours jet black. Aroma is mix of chocolate, vanilla, bourbon and very roasty. The taste is amazingly complex boozy sweetness balancing the vanilla, chocolate & bourbon. Medium mouthfeel. Incredible stout.

Poured a black body with really no head or lace. The aroma is vanilla and booze with a smattering of chocolate. Smooth yet sticky, thick, vanilla sweetness is strong yet smoothed out thanks to the woody aspects. There is definitely a cocoa taste in there as well that adds good balance and the beer finishes slightly sticky with mostly a hidden booziness.

Brew: Prairie Artisan Ales - Double Vanilla Noir

Intro: 12 oz. bottle poured into a tulip glass. Shared with a friend.

Appearance: Pitch black, Minimal head maybe .5 inches. Minimal lacing as I drank

Smell: Chocolate, vanilla, with the barrel bringing up the back end.

Taste: Follows the smell. Vanilla front and center with a good barrel backbone.

Mouthfeel: Medium mouthfeel, medium carbonation.

Drink: Very enjoyable, well balanced and went down smooth.

Conclusion: Vanilla is one of my favorite flavorings and this brew did not disappoint. Could have had even more vanilla for my taste but most would probably consider it overdone. I’m glad I was able to find a few to enjoy over the upcoming holidays.
