A: inky dark brown, almost black with thin brown head which quickly resolves
S: Hints of maple syrup, vanilla, boozy bourbon notes
T: Vanilla, maple syrup, coffee and almonds
M: Body is thick and syrupy with sticky residue that coats the tongue and mouth and leaves a lasting flavor and pleasant acidity without being astringent
O: Another great desert stout – well hidden abv and enjoyed slowly while staring into a crackling fireplace. A real treat

We pitted Moose Boots in a three way race against Sunday Service and Double Vanilla Noir over a couple hour period. Moose Boots gained nutty flavor and complexity as it sat, making up ground against both Sunday Service and Double Vanilla Noir after the first hour. And for a time we speculated Moose Boots was in the lead as it held its body better than the other two beers. But at the end Moose Boots tied Double Vanilla Noir for second place as Sunday Service sprinted for the finish line. Another masterclass beer - Moose Boots will not disappoint.

Served in a prairie artisan ales goblet from the can.

Appearance: Thick body with a dark tan head rising maybe half a fingers length off the body.

Smell: vanilla bean with hints of light coffee which hover the nostrils.

Taste: Ridiculously complex vanilla and coffee bean with hints of whiskey.

Mouth: very sticky body which lingers to the cheeks of your mouth. Soft carbonation and a ridiculously full body, having two super full bodied beers back to back and it's almost like an overload.

Overall: if you ask me this is an incredible grab, which resembles Bourbon county and the craft beer form with a little extra vanilla.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque black in the glass with a thin brown head that dissipates to patches with very light lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, maple syrup and vanilla; a bit boozy. Flavor is dark toasted malt, vanilla, maple syrup, light molasses and nuts. Medium bodied with light moderate creaminess. Solidly delivers on it's promised additional flavors with a good balance of maple, vanilla and almonds (which taste only generically nutty in the blend, so may be toasted). I'm thinking maple syrup barrels, as there is little whiskey flavor here and not much woody oak. Body a little lighter than expected, but sufficient to support these potentially dominating flavors. Big ABV apparent in the aroma, but not in the taste. A great adjunct stout from an always reliable stout brewery.

Upon entering the MSP market Prairie flooded the place with barrel aged bottles, now we just get the occasional lip service, like this 12 oz. sweetie.

Black. Nose brings bourbon, vanilla, & plenty of sweetness.

Barrel Aged Moose Boots is akin to having an almond tongue. Holy nuts. Perhaps I’m sensitive to almonds, or perhaps there are enough in there to kill an elephant. Bourbon appears with a touch of vanilla & sweetness that I’ll attribute to maple syrup. Big & rich like a standard Prairie stout but wish I’d split this with my alcoholic wife.

There are elements in beer that demand subtlety & a deft hand, & nuts are one of those items. Nothing subtle about these almonds, & it really brings the beer down. Pretty good.

The beer is black with a small tan head that dissipates quickly, and no lacing.
Aroma of maple syrup, vanilla, and nuts.
Strong maple syrup taste, as well as vanilla. Faint taste of nuts.
Very smooth, alcohol not noticeable.
A great dessert beer.

Flavorful, complex, sweet, bourbon notes well-present….a toasted almond stout should be what this is called. but in an even better way than the original same-names treat I compare this with (ice cream on a stick). The almonds, vanilla, maple notes, brown sugar, molasses, the lingering blend of these flavors with each sip is somehow like a gingerbread-frosted graham cracker (although it’s the result of the toasted almond-maple syrup interplay lending the aspects of what’s familiar to me in gingerbread notes).. All balanced out in the finish. Surprisingly good. It nailed something. Thick and chewy, too. Some may not like the flavor of almonds normally; but if you do then this should be tried.

Pours an effervescent ebony with a sliver of fast-falling mocha colored head. Viscous, zero head retention & lacing

S: Chocolate. vanilla, dark fruit & Maple Syrup, all fade a bit once warm

T: Maple syrup sweetness leads along with dryness, vanilla & a little toasty almond up front. Dryness & Maple syrup dominate with a little boozey bite, some dark chocolate & vanilla once this beer warms. Finishes warming, with Maple Syrup Candy sweetness & dryness, nice vanilla note, hints of toasted coconut as well

MF: Medium/chewy body, near zero carbonation & warming

Nice take on the style. I am a sucker for a Maple Syrup beer of the Imperial Nature

Good head production, but it's fairly quickly gone.

Nutty and rich aroma from feet away. Notes of bourbon, maple, vanilla, peanut, red grape, cherry, caramel, toffee, honeycomb.

Rich and fairly sweet on the palate, but not cloying. It's definitely a dessert beer. Everything comes to play, but I'm surprised at the restraint with the maple; arguably, the almonds and vanilla have just as much impact on the profile, perhaps even more, along with the bourbon and the huge malt base. Tasting notes are very similar to the nose, albeit perhaps a touch less complex.

pours an oily black with a tiny mocha-colored foam cap that recedes into a tiny collar around the glass. sharp barrel sting on the nose with maple, chocolate, a touch of vanilla and not much nuttiness. a little more almond on taste along with bourbon, chocolate, vanilla and maple. it’s not nearly as maple-y sweet as i originally planned for and i’m digging that. in fact, none of the adjuncts overwhelm to the point of sweetness. plus, there’s a hefty amount of barrel presence melding with the subtle adjuncts. medium-full mouthfeel. smooth with a pleasant oaky finish. highly enjoyable BA imperial stout and my first prairie in quite some time.

Not the most impressive imperial stout from this brewery in my opinion.

It was poured from a bottle into a tulip glass. Oily black color with brief brown head and little lacing. Pleasant warm boozy smell with cat, molasses and vanilla. The taste doesn’t quite live up to the smell. The feel is too week for this type of beer. A good beer but a tad disappointing.

A: Pours an opaque yet still clear dark thick viscous jet black in color with moderate amounts of fine active visible carbonation rising slowly along the edges of the glass and faint dark chestnut brown + dark cola brown + dark garnet red + dark amber colored highlights. The beer has a half finger tall dense foamy dark mocha head that quickly reduces to a small to medium sized patch of very thin film covering a little more than 10% of the surface of the beer and a very thin ring at the edges of the glass. Minimal amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate to strong aromas of dark chocolate + vanilla + toasted almonds + maple syrup over the top of moderate aromas of roasted + dark + caramel + toffee malts with moderate amounts of lactose + caramel + toffee sweetness as well as a hint of charred malts. Moderate aromas of toasted oak + caramel/vanilla + bourbon/whiskey. Hints of earthy hops.

T: Upfront there are slightly stronger than moderate flavors of roasted + dark + caramel + toffee malts with moderate amounts of lactose + caramel + toffee sweetness as well as a hint of charred malts. That is followed by just shy of strong flavors of dark chocolate + vanilla + toasted almonds + maple syrup. Then there are moderate flavors of toasted oak + caramel/vanilla + bourbon/whiskey from the barrel aging. Finally there are hints of earthy hops. Moderate amounts of roasty bitterness which is quickly overtaken by the lingering dark chocolate + lactose/caramel/toffee sweetness.

M: Just shy of full bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Slightly sticky initially with a hint of dryness in the finish. Light amounts of alcohol warming.

O: Very well constructed with well hidden alcohol and a pleasantly sticky + slightly dry mouthfeel with minimal amounts of alcohol warming. Enjoyable with lots of complexity - between the barrel aging, maple syrup, dark chocolate, vanilla, and toasted almonds. Definitely sweet but not cloying.
