Prairie Artisan Ales
Oklahoma, United States

Notes / Commercial Description:
Prairie Hop is our hop driven saison. This beer is packed with Simcoe and Citra hops. Notes of peach, mango, and tangerine can be found in the flavor and aroma of this beer. The beer finishes dry which helps the hops jump out of the glass flavor wise.

Putting together what's best about authentic farmhouse ale and the newest technique in hop implementation has not only put Prairie on the brewing map, but makes them excel!

And like those classy and rustic saisons, Prairie hop explodes its cork and comes racing into the tulip with exuberant carbonation and near-champagne appearances. It quickly constructs a cottony, airy white head that caps the zesty lightly golden ale beneath. Firm lace and high retention keeps the beer looking regal throughout.

Beautifully aromatic, the beer weaves together the earthy and floral traditional scents of saison with the tropical and citrus notes of today's better sculpted IPA. The fusion gives the nose new impressions with each whiff: mild grapefruit, mangoes, oranges, passion fruit, apricot, apples and lemon all take turn on a carousel of scents. Peppery spice allows notes of lemongrass and lemon pepper to emit just ahead of terse grain sweetness and damp hay.

Flavors reward the palate with all of the juicy and vibrant fruit taste that was introduced in the nose, but without the sweetness that's normally associated with those ripe flavors. Instead the dry malt complexes provide light grain sweetness and mild bread starch. Notions of honeysuckle come to mind as the beer transitions from malt to hops. But the taste of tropical and citrus fruits are a direct carryover from the floral bouquet and seems to be appreciated more in aftertaste than on the middle palate. Finishing herbal, flowery, and pleasantly grassy, the beer turns to clean and crisp bitterness, stopping just shy of IPA proportion.

But the beer's highest praise belongs with its mouthfeel. Its early arid creaminess offers soft impressions but the beer wastes no time developing into dryness and shedding its malt underpinnings. The finish comes quick and in bone-dry fashion. Its spritzy character bounces the beer off of the mouth and carries it into the gullet with ease. Medium warmth, light grassy bite, and prickling carbonation signal closure and encourage a quick revisit to the glass.

The beer is masterful as it really does strike the perfect balance between what's best about properly constructed saison and experimental new-wave hops. Its a delicious beer, making drinkability effortless.

A lot of tropical fruit and citrus hops flavors. Solidly bitter. A moderate spice from the yeast.

perfectly stated packaging, opens to reveal a most excellent aroma. It pours with a rich golden straw color, crowned by dense pale head that slowly reduces to a thin ever present visually pleasing icing for this wonderful slice of rich cake. The taste is incredible, it as if someone has taken my favorite IPA and Blended it with the best of Belgian saisons. this beer left me satisfied yet wanting another like a a drug addict needing another fix.

This seemed to be a nice hybrid between an IPA and a Saison.

In a snifter the beer was a clear gold color with a very thin tan head.

Interesting aroma. Citrus, sweet malt like an IPA. Earthy hops and spice like a saison.

Lemon, orange, pineapple taste. Earthy hops. Spice.

Wow! Really tasty. Soft in the mouth.

Pours a hazy, vibrant orange with thin white head that slowly dissipates leaving little trace. Wonderful aroma of peaches, pineapple, mango, grass and flowers. Flavors of stone fruit, citrus and a touch of yeast. Light to medium body with moderate carbonation. Crisp, clean finish. Complex beer with many layers. So far I'm a fan of Prairie Artisan Ales.

Looks and feels like a tripel, but tastes like a blend between that and a saison. I would have expected the dry-hopping to add more floral notes to this, but instead it seems to have mellowed it somewhat. There is an interesting amount of hops late in the swallow, however. Solid entry from Prairie Artisan Ales, in my opinion.
