Poured from a bottle into a Bell's tulip. Very appetizing hazy, orange-yellow color with a rather small head for this style that quickly dies down to a thin lacing. The nose is flowery, dry, and slightly musty with notes of lemon zest, white wine, and just a touch of barnyard funk. Smells like a nice Saison to me!

The beer has a nice, light body and a crisp, sightly bitter, slightly sour flavor. Up front are nice bitter fruity notes of orange peel, and pineapple, all supported by a grainy white cracker malt backbone. At mid-palate, the beer becomes as dry as a stone and acidic flavors of lemon, lime, and chardonnay develop. The finish is dry and appetizing and the beer is very refreshing, but I don't get much of a lingering flavor or sustained acidity, just a faint tannic feel that, while minimal, is enough to start you salivating and get you ready for another swallow. Extremely refreshing.

I'm always ready and willing to try another beer from Prairie. As usual, I was not disappointed. If this beer had a bit more carbonation to assist the feel and open the palate, I think some of the flavors would seem more intense and it would garner higher scores. As is, it is a wonderful beer to enjoy on a hot summer day. Very refreshing and easy to drink, but still complex enough to warrant thoughtful sipping. Another winner from Prairie, who has earned a spot on a very short list of brewers from whom I will try ANY beer I can find, regardless of style or reputation.

Hazy yellow golden colored. A half inch thick off white head with vibrant carbonation bubbles within the beer. Brussels lacing. Aromas of pineapple, mango and a bit of funk waft out of my glass. The taste of peppery saison yeast is on the front of the palate. It is followed quickly by a gentle touch of the earthy rye. The rye lingers in the aftertaste along with the pineapple and mango notes. The carbonation on this beer is moderate and the mouth is pretty crisp and dry.

Bottle @ beer tasting on 1/31/2015. Pours hazy light golden in color with minimal bubbly effervescent head. Aroma is tart citrus, yeasty funk, and hints of wood. Medium body, nice carbonation with some trub-like particulate. Taste is lemon, white grape, oak and funky yeast elements nicely balanced. Very drinkable saison and the barrel aging adds a nice dimension.
