Bottle gifted by Blafa

A: Deep blood red with a light pink head.

S: Pungent/Ripe blackberry/dark fruits on the nose.

T: Just incredible sweet-tart black currant. Tangy with a dry finish. More tart than sour, so I assume the Brett is still doing it's work on this one. Alcohol is completely hidden.

M: Drinks like a cherry cola or carbonated Kool-aid. Very drinkable.

O: I love anything with black currants and I wish we could get this stateside. Tart and sweet without being medicinal. The mouthfeel could be improved.

Batch #3, 75 cl bottle.

The liquid is somewhat hazy, the colour red/wine red. The low white head sinks quickly into a thin lid.

The smell is dry with fine notes of mature red wine, black currant, and currant bush. Stong sour notes, some bitter herbs.

The taste is dry with lots of currant bush, black currants, and unsweetened black currant juice. Bitter herbs and growing tart notes reminding of malic acid. Hits of stable and horse. Light to medium body. The aftertaste is semi-sour with some sweetness. Hints of metallic bitterness. The long finish got notes of black currants and acid drops. The sour flavours sticks to my teeth.

The carbonation is medium to strong, the long lasting bubbles are large and fresh (but not sharp). The liquid is quite light.

This beer is exactly as I had expected it: Brilliant.

Beautiful dark red color, but otherwise pretty bad. Enteric dirty diaper aroma, spicy/earthy currants, strangely herbal tasting.

750ml bottle (@ 5.4% ABV) - not a lot of Swedish brews make their way to Alberta, and certainly nothing as fancy as this!

This beer pours a slightly hazy, dark salmon amber colour, with two fingers of puffy, finely foamy, and somewhat fizzy pale pink head, which leaves some crooked Swiss cheese lace around the glass as it quickly and evenly subsides.

It smells of funky bacterial infection, wet wood, gritty and grainy pale malt, a lesser spicy wheatiness, some minor lemon and musty black currant fruitiness, and a touch of leafy and herbal green hop bitters. The taste is big and tart black currant fruity notes, a prominent musty earthiness, dank barrel staves, some sour milkiness as it warms, a bready graininess and a still laid back wheaten cereal character, some edgy (but not particularly funky) Brett, plain mineral water, and an indistinct verdant hop bitterness.

The carbonation is fairly benign in its quotidian frothiness, the body a so-so medium weight, and sort of smooth, as the fruitiness mostly overrides the local troublemakers, as such. It finishes off-dry, the base malt and black currant fruit keeping the lingering tart and sour esters at bay.

Overall, this isn't a bad sour fruit ale, it's just that there is a strange combination of milk and soured fruit that kind of starts to get on my nerves after a spell. Maybe it's a too many cooks spoil the broth sort of thing, i.e. more complicated than complex.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Deep red body. Medium khaki head. Wispy surface.

Smell - Smells exactly like currants. Like currant jam or a currant juice concentrate. Not much else.

Taste - Sharp currant flavor. A little acidic. Drops off quickly. Musty finish.

Mouthfeel - High carbonation. Medium light body.

Overall - Smelled really nice, but doesn't pan out.

On-tap at Mikkeller & Friends in Copenhagen, served in a mini tulip glass. Thanks Kristoffer!

A- Pours a vibrant fuchsia color with a thin, pink head, recedes to a collar.

S- Smells very nice actually. Mild tartness in the aroma, focuses more heavily on very juicy, fresh aromas of blackcurrant.

T- Way more tart than it smells, has a great acidity, really spot-on. Blended with the tartness is a nice, subtle, only a bit sweet blackcurrant flavor.

M- Medium-bodied, smooth with good carbonation.

O- I really enjoyed this beer, they've got the tartness down really well and the fruit character is very nice.

First, let me say that this beer is beautiful. Deep red, ruby tones. Pretty hot.
Unfortunately, it smells and tastes awful. It kind of reminds me of a skunk. Not like skunked hops, but that smell you get when you hit a skunk with your car.

A beautiful beer to pour. Gorgeous red liquid coming out of the bottle fills the glass with a deep red body and a fluffy pink head sprouts up that slowly falls to a thin covering that hangs around.

Huge fruit nose. The black currants are poppin with some blackberry and raspberry as well. A little leafy and herbal.

Just like the aroma it is big on fruit with currant and berry flavors. A large herbal presence as well which is very interesting. On the sour side.

Lively in the mouth and fairly dry. Body is on the lighter side.

Really impressed by this.

Had the beer at the Shelton Brothers festival and it was easily in the top 10 of the event. Keeping in mind there were beers like Cantillon Gueuze '05, West Ashley, Fou Foune or Blueberry Flanders available there. This is a fantastic wild ale (not sure why it's listed just as a fruit beer).

Burgundy color with purple head. Aroma is very rich and fruity, with blackcurrants, bitter dark cherries and blackberries. Taste starts sour and fruity up-front, not much complexity but really intense on the dark fruits. It's like a fruit lambic without the funky notes. It's really nice overall, clean sourness and lots of fruits.
