not a bad brew, but its most interesting aspect is its packaging. a can i have never seen before, a pop top peel back that lets the whole lid come off. the nose that way can get a lot more activity when guzzling from the can, very cool design. the beer itself is a sturdy one. they call this a session ale project or something, which i think is absurd for this abv, unless of course your day starts at noon and ends at 6pm, then its an all day beer. for those of us with more regular hours, its a bit much for all day consumption at almost 8% abv. caramel malt balances rugged american hops, maybe simcoe or centennial, it has that high resin woody flavor to it in the finish, very pine family, very bitter, but very well built. bright carbonation makes it drink pretty easy for a big ipa, but the hops stay on the palate after the swallow, and the booze is only thinly veiled, making it less nice as it warms. getting filling too. a bit generic, but well enough made. i havent had much beer from dallas, so this was a treat.

Pours bronze with slight effervescence & 2+ fingers of pearl white head. Average head retention & lacing

S: Grassy, a little pine, some breadyness

T: Pine, much breadyness, a little grapefruit & some pear up front. Bready sweetness, pine & a little grapefruit as this warms, some dryness too. Finishes with a little grapefruit, some pine, dryness, some pear & breadyness, plus a little herbal hop bitterness

MF: Medium body, slight carbonation, pretty good balance

Very malt forward, a good IPA, not completely in my wheelhouse hop-wise, but well worth a try

12 ounce can with a unique pull-top lid. On to the beer:

Semi-creamy head rests above this lightly toasted orange beer. A few whips of lace stick around the glass. El Chingon smells like an IPA who's hops have decayed. I smell sap, resin, and vague bitter grapefruit. Not surprising, it tastes like a faded West Coast IPA. It's resiny with touches of toasted caramel and bitter grapefruit, running through a medium/full body. The can I drank was two months old, so I was surprised to taste something which I associate with double the age. As it is, it still remains a decent beer.

The beer pours a dark golden body.
The smell is absolutely amazing. It's of fresh strong hops with a hint of malt sweetness.
The taste is great, with a nice bitter hop flavor and a bit of booziness on the finish.
The feel is good, with a bit of tingle on the back of the tongue.
This is such a great beer FRESH, if you are not drinking this beer fresh, you are doing it wrong.
