on tap at 3rd Floor in midtown Houston

L: black ... or almost; just a hint of brown; nice solid tan head with some stick

S: piney hops on top of malt; super sweet

T: hoppy sweet; darker than typical brown ale but with the same nutty flavor and malty sweet finish; there's plenty of hops up front; burnt finish at times

F: good carbonation but nothing exceptional

O: a cool, Americanized version of the English style with a lot of hop bite; what makes it work for me is the fact that it's malt backbone helps it remain true to the English version ... lots of malt sweetness. a very interesting brew and one I wouldn't mind trying again.

Pours a hazy brown. Nice fluffy off-white/tan colored head that hangs around for quite awhile.

Smell is slightly nutty, with decent caramel smell. Toffee is present as well. Fairly standard smell for the style. As the beer warms a slight coffee smell comes through.

Taste begins slightly sweet with a nice roasted almond and hazelnut. Caramel malts begin to dominate. Toffee moves in mid-palate. The nutty flavors dominate the finish and linger.

Mouthfeel is fairly creamy, but I enjoy it quite a bit.

Overall a good beer. In a style that doesn't get much love I do really enjoy this beer.
