Gentleman's Relish uses Maris Otter malt as the base, augmented with dark crystal and chocolate malts. Whole cone English hops are used throughout the boil, imparting their characteristic smooth bitterness. The beer is named after an Englishman's favorite snack, an anchovy paste, typically eaten on toast.

Murky, opaque brown body topped with a thin, light khaki head, lasting and semi-creamy in texture. Faint, malty aroma; a hint of cocoa, lightly sweet in character. Excellent flavor; rich, malty sweetness; toffee and light cocoa; slight bitterness. Medium-heavy body; smooth and silky on the palate; excellent residual sugar presence coats the palate; sweet mouthfeel.

The looks and smell didn't bode well for the beer, but the taste and mouthfeel pulled this one through. The can states 'Nitro' on the label yet there is nothing on the can nor the brewery's web site about nitro used for this (the web site also posts a picture of the nitro can label but just lists the beer as 'Gentleman's Relish', so who knows about that aspect of this beer. Looks so-so, tastes great!

Just bought a 6 pack in cans dated 6/2/22. Being that I have no interest in reviewing the looks and feel I am just drinking it from the can but I must say that this is a great beer and super easy to drink because of the nitrogen and for anybody that occasionally bongs their beer this one is pretty smooth. Very similar to a light stout as far as the flavor goes. Kinda like roasted special grain with dark chocolate notes. No complaints here

Best-before date is over 2 years old. Not sure if I should want much out of this. It pours a dark, opaque brown, without hardly a hint of foam. But strong malt notes remain in the aroma, cocoa, perhaps lightly toasted. Very low bitterness to taste, with a fairly chocolate-like taste. Despite low bitterness, it's not too sweet and finishes medium dry. Good, soft, creamy body.

An undated 16.9 ounce bottle of Gentleman's Relish pours a dirty brown, iced tea color with no head. It smells of chocolate and quite inviting. It has a mostly chocolate taste that fairly smooth and satisfying. Easy enough to drink. I would drink this again. So many are "dirty dishwater" tasting so this is pretty damn good.

Nice bottle that lets you know it’s there. Immediately was excited to pop the top on this one. Upon opening slight disappointment on pour just not enough head (like my marriage). Beer is creamy and dark with nice color. Medium intensity woody and nutty flavors (that’s what she said). Solid beer, not sure I would spend $4 on another single but it’s decent. Very similar to Cholo Stout offered by a local brewer. Good but not great. 82/100.

Served on tap in a pint glass

Appearance -The beer is served a murky brown color with a tiny off-white head. The head fades very fast leaving almost no lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma is rather strong of a brown bread smell mixed with aromas of molasses and some toast. Along with these smells comes a little bit of a cocoa and some light earthy smells.

Taste – The taste begins with a big brown bread flavor mixed with a light roastiness and some caramel and molasses sweetness. These tastes advance forward and are joined by some flavors of some nuttiness as well as a bit of earth. Toward the end of the taste the roastiness fades a bit all while the sweetness increase, leaving one with a thick brown bready taste to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the brew was rather thick with a carbonation level that was rather low. For the brown bread flavors mixed with sweet the feel is quite appropriate and makes for a more decent but easy drinker.

Overall – A decent brown ale overall. Sit could have used a little more roastiness, but the flavors overall were pretty good. Well worth a try if you get the chance.
