Pours straw yellow with a bit of haze and a diminutive head that musters up lots of lace. The aroma is of citrusy, floral, tropical hops with a bit of bready malts. The taste is of lemon and grapefruit hops with doughy, grainy pale malts in the back. The mouthfeel is medium to light bodied with medium carbonation. Fruity, tropical fruits and moderate bitterness in the long finish.

A well balanced, complex APA. Definitely worth a try.

Can: Poured a bright yellow color ale with a huge white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of green juicy hops notes with light grainy notes also perceptible. Taste is also a mix of juicy fruity hops notes with light residual sugar notes and light grainy notes. Body is about average for style with good carbonation. Solid APA that stands well with the other beers from this series.

LCBO can, fortunately found at Weston. Malt helped the moderate IBU to make this smooth and drinkable. A nice drinker for sure.Thick lace, good mouthfeel.

Tallboy from a London-area LCBO, one of four BtP brews I nabbed while in the area. No canning date; served slightly chilled.

Pours hazy golden-yellow in colour; looks extremely effervescent, with swarms of bubbles swirling upwards through the column of liquid, while at its surface, more than two fingers of fluffy, sparkling white head gathers. This thick layer of foam proves to be extremely resilient - it actually rises above the rim of the glass for a few minutes before finally beginning to erode in the opposite direction (another 10 minutes). Amazing coat of lace; this is plain straight-up gorgeous beer. Smells of citrusy lemon zest, grapefruit and apricot, with hints of melon, floral hops and indistinct tropical fruit. Well, I'm enticed.

Very tasty stuff. The flavour profile follows after the nose - citrusy hop flavours of grapefruit, orange and lemon peel figure in prominently, underlain by a steady background of grainy wheat and light, doughy malt sweetness. Light hints of apricot and tropical fruit, with a floral, grassy bitterness at the finish . Medium in body, with light carbonation and a smooth, slick texture with slight viscosity. Very satisfying mouthfeel, and fantastically easy to drink - a definite session candidate.

Final Grade: 4.19, a very solid A-. The Pale Ale Project is unequivocally one of the best new Ontario pale ales that I've tried in 2017. It's also the first Beyond the Pale product I've tried, as I live quite far from Ottawa (and am probably well outside their distribution range), but I am duly impressed with it and will definitely keep an eye out for more. I don't expect this to become commonplace in my neck of the woods anytime soon, but I'll hope it does anyway. Hopheads are encouraged to grab one, or maybe even an armful if you can confirm its freshness.

Seems like the most restrained iteration of the series. ABV is taken back a bit and whatever final hop bill they settled on seems a bit lighter than any of the other versions. That being said, it is light and has enough hop flavour for a nice punch but remains extremely drinkable.

Pours a clear hay color with 2 good fingers of cloudy white head that falls slowly to a sudzy cap and collar leaving nice lacing. Opening the can releases a big blast of juicy fruit (mango and oranges) which fade to some soft floral notes. The taste is also hop forward with lots of citrus and some spice and balanced out with some light malt sweetness. Medium-light body with lots of carbonation making the the beer highly crushable.

Service: Can
No date

A:
Pours a lightly hazy straw color with three fingers of airy white head that finally drops to a fluffy ring. Good retention; scattered ragged lacing. (4)

S:
Citrus tea. Lemon rinds, grapefruit, grass, some cereal body. (3.75)

T:
Smooth, lightly citric beer with a nice toasted malt body; lemon zest, herbs, crusty bread. (4)

M:
Light+ body with active carbonation and a dry finish with a lingerin hint of astringency in the mouth. (4)

O:
Tasty, straight-forward, solid beer.
This is a nicely balanced, pretty good-looking, beer that drinks like a lemon iced tea with a good dose of carbonation. The aroma and flavor both have a nice mesh of toasty malt/cereal aromas and light citric/green hoppiness. Neither dominates, both contribute. Seltzer bubbles cleanse your palate after each swig.
Would have again. I'd be curious to try this with some seafood. (4)

Pours a slightly hazy straw colour with active carbonation leading to thin white film which leaves a bit of white lacing. Aroma is fruity citrus. Taste gives a nice bright burst of citrus hops with a bit of lemon, some floral & grassy as well as smooth bitterness. Taste and feel are just a touch watery though making this taste like the session that it is. Flirts with greatness, but like most sessions, falls just short of providing that full hoppy, smooth flavour & feel.

473 ml can, served cold into a pint glass. Purchased from the local Fortinos, now with a beer and wine section.

Appearance - Hazy, with a rich golden color and some orange-ish hues. Lots of head, nearly two fingers worth which is sparkling and white and cascading rings of lacing. Pretty good head retention.

Smell - Plenty hoppy with lots of citrus, orange and grapefruit mostly with a hint of lemon zest. Very good aromas.

Taste - Some citrus but also plenty of malt that is subtle but provides for a nice balancing act. Orange is most prominent with bits of grapefruit and lemon again.

Mouthfeel - Medium-light bodied, crisp plenty of carbonation but not gassy. Tingling sensations on the tongue.

Overall - Really, really solid pale ale. This is going into the rotation if there is wider distribution. Two thumbs up. A cut above many other pale ales.
