First Beyond the Pale seasonal... I think. Don't know if this is a limited, seasonal, or addition to the lineup, but they're taking preorders for 4 packs, so this isn't the last of it. It's actually an Imperial Oatmeal.

Pours a very dark brown. Two finger head off the pour. Mocha. Settles to a nice creamy film after five minutes or so. Spotty lacings to the finish.

Great roasty aroma, bordering on charcoal.

Coffee and light fruit gradually melt together to a subtle chocolate flavour. Bittersweet finish with a really faint heat. Booze is actually really well incorporated in this. Mouthfeel is pretty much spot on, almost creamy.

Quite well done, would be great if it were regular.

Boozy bitter dark chocolate notes. A big stout like the numbers suggest. This is the opposite of sessionable, but makes for a fine afternoon.

Growler: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a large brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of roasted malt with deep coffee notes and light dry black chocolate notes. Taste is dominated by strong coffee notes with some roasted malt with light black chocolate and a smooth oat finish. Body is pretty full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Quite enjoyable but maybe tad too much coffee notes for my own taste.

Had a half pint of this at the Lunenberg. From notes.

A - Poured black with two fingers of mocha head. Spotty lace and a half finger retention.

S - Charred, roasty, oats, licorice.

T - Chocolate, strong roast, licorice, oaty.

M - Mild carbonation, full body, roasty and dry to finish.

O/D - Went down really easy and there was no trace of the ABV in the flavour or aroma. They crafted this well, but it doesn't grab you like some better examples of the style. Room for improvement, but a job well done nonetheless.

Pitch black with a thick brown foamy head that dissipates very slowly. Slight smell of burnt grain, mild licorice. The dominant flavour is dark chocolate with notes of coffee and licorice. The 10.2% ABV is well integrated. Limited carbonation with a thick, full body. This is an enjoyable Imperial Stout; certainly something worthwhile seeking out, but not among my favourites in the style.
