Pours a lovely copper with fb of off white head. Smells of pine, toasted malt, some herbal notes and a hint of rye. Taste is sweet malts forward transitioning in to more piney, some pithy grapefruit notes, herbal notes with the rye smoothing the transition. Some biscuit notes, caramel on the front end Hop notes providing a fair amount of balance and astringency to the sweet malts. Mouthfeel is medium, the rye definitely provides a smoothing influence on the texture, moderate carbonation and clean finish.
Overall a rather good take on an IPA – the rye influence did seem to mute some of the notes that I enjoy – but overall – very good.

24oz can, sample from the brewery. Nothing is more punk than a 24oz can.

Beautiful pale copper hue, great looking show of lacing. Orangey piney hops in the nose, some spicy rye and caramel in there as well. Deep smoothness, a little creamy, and medium bodied. Clean graininess with bread, rye, and faint caramel. Ample hopping with overtones of citrus rind, pine, fresh cut grass, & blonde tobacco. Kiss of fruit esters and more hop resin in the finish. Damn good job with this beer, seek this one out.

Pours a clear dark amber with a small bright white head.

Smell is citrus, grapefruit, pine, sweet malt.

The taste is spicy rye, sweet maltiness, citrus hops, pine, finishing pretty bitter.

Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied, smooth, medium carbonation.

Overall far from terrible, just unremarkable. The abv is well hidden though.

I originally had this in a huge format can split with a buddy probably almost a year ago at this point, but it looks like this is being put into 12 oz cans now. Not sure if that's replacing the original, hilariously huge 24 oz can (probably is if I had to venture a guess) but regardless, I picked up a six pack because I recalled really digging the original. I remember that while drinking it the first time, we reminded ourselves what NOFX's music sounds like and binge-watched old skateboarding videos. Good times.

Pours a deep, lightly-hazed dark amber color with a towering head of slightly-off-white foam that mainly consists of larger, clustered bubbles. Sinks to a normal two-finger head after a couple minutes, leaving excellent, sticky lacing.

Nose is basically just as I recall. Slightly fruity and citrus-forward, but mostly biased towards pine resin, earthy/baking spice and dank grassy notes pretty evenly. Smells really nice/well-rounded. You can tell it's going to be a pretty balanced drink even though it's a rye IPA (which can at times be overbearingly hoppy and spicy).

Pine-forward hoppy flavor with slightly spicy, crackery and chewy rye malt backing it up at first. Deep caramel toastiness is present but struck down instantly by the rind-like citrus (grapefruit/tangelo) hop qualities; likely from a blend of darker malts giving this its rather uncharacteristically-dark color. Even with the 13-15 SRM body, this doesn't drink like a "red IPA" or even a hoppy amber, as it cleans up really well towards the middle-end of each sip and doesn't feel traditionally sweet. Very well-put-together beer with some seriously conscious construction going on. It gets major points for having what seems to be a great recipe.

Feel is mildly-sticky, sure, but it seems to fade out rather quickly, leaving only a stark, bitter flavor on the tongue after each sip. Definitely oily and volatile; lots of resinous hops here but low-leaning carbonation seems to fall off just before it would make the greatest impact on the palate. It's just about the only thing I find below-great about this beer.

With slightly higher carbonation and a somewhat pushier feel, this would be a serious contender for one of the most underrated and overlooked rye-focused IPAs made on the East Coast. As it stands, it is quite nice and doesn't drink a hair over 6%. For a darker-colored IPA pushing "imperial" this is certainly a boon. Flavor is so well-balanced and satisfying that I can't help but give it a shining review. Cheers!

Copper colored with a white head that leaves minimal lacing. The smell is mainly spicy rye and fruity hops. There is a little caramel sweetness present in the nose as well. The taste is very bitter and spicy with a mildly sweet and fruity flavor.
