Poured into a hybrid glass from a 12 oz can

A - great sludgy deep brown/black, with a strange one finger deep tan head that is fluffy and some nice sticky lacing and sexy legs

S - sugary sweet, huge roasted malts/grains, strong anise, some caramel, dark chocolate, cinnamon, lots of green and subsequently brown earth, molasses, ginger, baking spices galore, deep over ripe fruit notes, oatmeal cookies,

T - huge anise, dark chocolate, nice woodsy booze note, huge roasted and toasted malts/grains, baking yeast, brown earth, dry oak, slight pepper, ginger, oats and a baking yeast with all the spices to go along with holiday cookies.

M - full bodied, well balanced, nice complexity, medium carbonation, medium minus acidity and a holiday ale style stout through and though.

D/O - the roasted malts/grains are not to be reckoned with but still easy on the taste buds and quite refreshing. This is a huge stout that collided with a strong winter ale and we couldn't be more excited. Something to definitely enjoy on a cold day by a warm fire and goes well with a porterhouse or t-bone that is grilled just right. Santa would definitely enjoy this one and maybe a reindeer or two as well.

Final thoughts - not sure of the price as it was a gift (thanks Keith). The ABV at 8% seems low for an imperial but, will warm you up for sure. Grab a can or two, one to drink right away and one to age for another day.

Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a black color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of spices, some chocolate. Taste is chocolate, plenty of spices, ginger stands out, a bit of licorice, no alcohol. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is an enjoyable beer.

Can:
Decently dark beer with a medium tan rim that has a bit of lacing. The lacing lasts quite well.

Nose has a stale ginger cookie note to it. There is some chocolate, it a bit of cola note. There's a missing freshness in the nose, which I don't think has -manything to do with the beer's actually age.

Taste leans more towards a combination of ginger, cardamom, and stout. It has a nice heft, medium, but brings enough carbonation to make it drinkable. The oatmeal stout nature is noticeable, but the spice really grabs the attention of my palate. Funny thing is that I'm getting a concept of the cardamom spice (or maybe its interaction with ginger) that I'm temperately enjoying. Not quite near GBS, but an enjoyable beer to try.
