12 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 6/11/2019. Pours crystal clear medium golden amber color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big tangerine, red grapefruit, lemon, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, mango, honeydew melon, berries, citrus peel/rind, wood, onion, mint, peppercorn, pine, cracker, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and pale malt notes; with big strength. Taste of big tangerine, red grapefruit, lemon, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, mango, honeydew melon, berries, citrus peel/rind, wood, onion, mint, peppercorn, pine, cracker, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tangerine, red grapefruit, lemon, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, mango, honeydew melon, berries, citrus peel/rind, wood, onion, mint, peppercorn, pine, cracker, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and pale malt flavors; with a nice malt/bitterness balance, and no lingering hop astringency after the finish. Fairly crisp/clean finishing. Moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium-plus carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy, and sticky/resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Minimal warming alcohol for 7%. Overall this is a very nice IPA. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and pale malt flavors; very smooth, easy, and fairly crisp/clean to drink with the modestly bitter/resinous/drying finish; not overly aggressive. Nice Simcoe, Cascade, Summit profile. Extremely vibrant, dank, earthy, and fairly juicy hop complexity; with a nice clean pale malt backbone. Minimal residual sweetness with crisp resin drying. A very enjoyable offering, and well made style example.

On tap at Food.Bar.Food in Harrisonburg, VA.

This one pours a light clear amber color, with a small head and lots of lacing.

This one smells like piney astringent hops, strong malt, and booze.

This is wholly average, and even mediocre, with nothing to make it stand out. It’s just way too malty and sweet, with the only hop flavor really being just sharply bitter piney hops.

This is light bodied, and fairly crisp, but not super drinkable.

This cannot really be recommended.

T-The taste follows the nose with a slight hop, but strong malt flavor
M-A medium bodied decently carbonated beer
O-A decent American IPA

Can: Poured alight amber color ale with a medium size foamy head with OK retention and light lacing. Aroma of citrusy hops undertones is pleasant enough. Taste is a mix of citrusy hops notes, light bitterness with some dry malt presence. Body is about average with good carbonation. Enjoyable standard IPA while not breaking any new ground.

Overall, it's a very bold, piney IPA. The pour is is a golden amber with a modest head. This beer smells of strong pine with some citrus undertones. The taste is strong hops, but misses something in the form of citrus, caramel, etc. It's a decent IPA.

Fresh from a can into a proper glass ya. Brownish yellow, with a fair amount of carbonation. Minimal lacing and head. Tastes okay, kind of more fruity than happy. Decent American IPA.

12 oz can with a 24 July 2017 canning date stamp.
Pours with a clear amber-copper colored body topped by a moderately durable off-shite head. Foamy with sticky lacing.
Medium-high bitterness for style with above average hop aroma and flavor. Pine notes dominate.
Medium body and prickly carbonation.
Overall: a bold, piney IPA.

A resiny example of the American IPA with subtle malt character but heavy bitterness with resin and pine coursing through the palate. Finishes herbal and earthy from all the resin character. Still dry and an enjoyable IPA although heavy handed in its execution.

Pours a clear yellow color with a thin fizzy head. Head retention is decent. Lacing is good. Citrus and piney aroma with some dankness to it. More earthy. Taste is okay. More piney resin than any citrus taste. Very bitter. Somewhat astringent. Older than I usually like to drink. Not bad, but would like to try it fresh.

Pours a murky burnt yellow. Citrus hops, soap, resin, piney hops. Fruity and bready malts. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Bitter taste.

Overal an ok beer and not super hoppy.

L: Poured from a can to a pint glass. Had an amber color and a clear consistency. There was a small amount of foamy head that quickly dissipated. Not a whole lot of lacing.

S: A fair, slightly underwhelming aroma of hops, malt, and some citrus.

T: Tasted of a fair amount of malt (sweet, but not overly so), too much hops (kind of slaps you in the face), a bif citrus (orange, grapefruit), and a somewhat dank quality. A very unbalanced flavor, with the hops dominating everything else. A bit more focus could have helped.

F: A good amount of carbonation with a bitter finish. Medium-bodied.

O: Certainly not the worst IPA I've ever tried, but not great either. Could have been better.

Heard good things about this one. Local as well. Disappointing though. Pretty nondescript IPA with somewhat metallic aftertaste. Not bad but wouldn't buy again unless on sale.

A-an amber orange color with a fingers worth of white head

S-smell is of citrus, tropical fruits, and a malty sweetness

T-taste is similar to the smell with a malty backbone, citrus, and has a bitter finish

M-medium body, moderate carbonation

Overall a pleasant drinkable IPA, though not the most interesting

Between the can and the name I almost feel like this should bew called "generic American IPA" just because it all seems cliche. Solid pour reveals attractive orange amber body and rocky white head that doesn't last. Nose starts well with citrus hops but as it warms also shows dark fruit and a touch of booze.

An interesting flavor that show solid balance, with broad citrus and pine based hops mellowing against dark sweet malt and its attendant fig and plum notes. Refreshing in texture but could stand to be a little tighter and dryer in my opinion.

This is a solid drinking beer with a somewhat different feel although not really a go to IPA for me. Worth a shot, at least.

Brewed 01/27/2016. Poured into a glass for drinking.

Color, brownish golden with a modest off-white head. Leaves a little lacing. Nose rather resinous, with fairly strong fruit smells secondary, a nice combo, if not groundbreaking. Taste goes through nice expansion of both hops and IPA-style malt, and leads to a rather oily (but not unpleasant) and sudsy mouthfeel. All in all, a tasty IPA, though not especially individualistic.

Pours a very clear amber with a couple fingers of off-white head. Tons of bubbles flow up from the bottom. Decent lacing.

Smell is kind of metallic, and not great, honestly. A bit of sweet malt in the smell.

Flavor is lemony and sort of off, like the metallic smell; not nasty, just not great. Feel is a good combination of medium and lively carbonation. Overall, with all the great IPAs out there, not something I would drink again.

Pours a moderately-cloudy orange/amber with a slightly creamy white head. The head has pretty good retention and leaves a small amount of small mostly soapy lacing. The aroma is nice, with both tropical fruits and floral aspects. The taste is a little dull compared to the aroma. Not bad, but just lacking in the same intensity. The body is lighter with a slight but steady carbonation.

Appearance: A Massive head forms above the clear amber liquid; pretty good retention and some squiggly lace hangs around

Smell: Cakey malt and citrusy hops can be detected though the aromatics are limited

Taste: Malt forward, with some sugar cake sweetness, up front; in the middle, the bitterness build but it is mostly of the orange pith/bitter rind variety; the finish is quite bitter but lacks the hop flavors that make bitter beers beguiling

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: With so many interesting hop flavors in IPAs these days, when I encounter an old-fashioned, straight forward bitter IPA I just come away rather bored by the experience

Pours a pale yellow/orange mixture smaller off white head some sparse lacing.

Aroma is nice balanced a good malty base biscuity with citrus fruity hops, deep tobacco hints a little dank and musty.

Taste is like the nose a good malt base but also good hop flavors. Hops are deep fruity, little dank. Some grapefruit bitterness in the finish. Not a bright in your face IPA but an enjoyable beer at least in my opinion.

Mouthfeel is a solid medium and so is the carbonation level.

Overall a good IPA not great enough to be a regular in the fridge but wouldn't pass on it if it was available at a bar.

Champion Brewing Company "Missile IPA"
12 oz. can, no freshness dating
$1.92 @ Weis Market, Conshohocken, PA

65 IBUs, 7% alc. by vol., citrusy/fruity/piney hops, biscuity/caramelish/honeyish malt - a solid rendition of a soft and smooth amber west coast IPA that's not overly processed, leaving it with a bit of a "real ale" characteristic. I'm surprised it hasn't scored better because I can't find a single fault with it, other than the fact that there are hundreds, if not thousands, of beers pretty much exactly the same as this on the market. Of course you can't blame the brewer for that, IPAs are what the customer wants, so IPAs are what the breweries will make! I'm guessing the issue with the average scores here is that "beer advocates" are looking for a bit more, something with a kick, or some extra bit of interest... we are a jaded lot, aren't we? However I call 'em as I see 'em, and this one's quite solid even if it does lean a little bit more towards "malty" with just a measly 65 IBUs ;P

Cloying and malty. Little to no citrus, just vague bitterness barely cutting through sweet malt. With the amount of good IPAs out there there's no reason to drink this beer.

Canned Mid-Atlantic IPA, consumed in California. On to the beer:

Here is a glowing orange beer with a half-inch of semi-soapy head and a few lines of lacing which stick around the glass. The beer smells of modest pine, orange peel, grapefruit, covered with a dusting of sugar. Solid as it stands, though not explosive as the ones on my coast do it. The taste is a notch better than the aroma, bringing an IPA with a hit of hops that brings candied orange and grapefruit, riding on dry toffee crisp. It's medium bodied with modestly crisp carbonation, not bitter, and overall a fine beer.
