An imperial stout — a classic style so rich and flavorful that it was once the private beverage of Russian Czars. The profile is malty sweet, hop bitter roasted, full-bodied, alcoholic and deliciously complex. Beer doesn’t get much more intense than this!

On nitro tap in Columbus. Yes, nitro tap. Pitch black, no other shades at all. Thick beige creamy head. Good head retention and lace.
Sweet milk chocolate aroma. A bit of dark fruit in the background. Nitro seems to mask the aroma a bit.
Very sweet up front. Milk chocolate gives way to dark vinous fruits. Some black cherry and plumb flavor. A bit of bitterness to back things up.
Medium body, very creamy. Overall, a bit too sweet. Please, no more double stouts on nitro! Would probably bemuch better without it.

At the Evansville, Indiana location served ice cold in a pilsner glass...
Medium brown with light brown head. Aroma is mild with roasted malt and a hint of sweetness. The taste is bittersweet roasted malt with mild sweetness. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, good.

On tap at the Colorado Springs' BJ's off of Nevada Ave.
The beer was decent overall (if slightly under-poured). Frothy, off-white head; decent smell and taste; okay mouthfeel.

Pours deep chocolate with nice fluffy foamy cap. Notes of coffee, nutty malt and dark bitter chocolate with nice hoppy bite. Good imperial stout at 8.5% ABV. (BJ gives a standard pour, VE their 8.6% DIPA friend in a smaller glass).

Not a thick motor oil type stout which is why it's sort of interesting. Had it the other night at Bj's and it's very smooth and seems light but don't be fooled, the 8.5% abv will sneak up on you. After 2 pints of this, I was done! Has sort of a coffee taste. Pretty good.Smooth.

This beer is really underrated in my opinion. Definitely Bj's best craft beer. Has a dark brown color and a creamy tan nitro head. Smells slightly hoppy and very chocolatey. Tastes pleasantly bitter with a good dose of hops. Kind of reminds me of an IPA with the color and flavor of a stout. Would definitely recommend it if you ever get the chance to come here as it's always poured fresh.
