Picked up a freshly poured growler to go from Papago Brewing.

A - A surprisingly, even atypically, pale DIPA. Golden yellow, like watered down iced tea. Topped with a quickly dissipating half-finger of white head and little carb. Lacing is irregular and minimal.

S - Unassertive nose. The malt is vauge and backed with enough assertive alcohol to remind me of the bottom of a leftover Auchentoshan Scotch on the rocks. Hops are present with faint traces of pine.

T - The carbonation is more assertive on the palate than the appearance would suggest. The front end is almost crisp, with dry piney hops in the middle, and a alcoholic, but not hot, finish of lemon and sweet malt. Lingering aftertaste is slightly antiseptic. Quaffable for the ABV.

M - Very easy to drink in great quantity but neither substantial or lively. The ABV outstrips the gravity somewhat leaving a beer that's bigger than it feels.

O - I'm not totally sure what to make of this beer. It's very light in color, gravity, and hop character for what is supposed to be a DIPA. Just sitting and drinking it without over-thinking it proves easy. Once I break the beer down though I find the lemon aftertaste in the weak hop profile, combined with the poorly disguised alcohol, to remind me of mouthwash. Still, the beer somehow proves to be more than the sum of it's parts even if it's a poor representation of the style.

Brewery's Description:
"Imperial Pale Ale with a large American hop profile.". 100 IBU

I haven't had Dogfish's 90 minute IPA in 6 months or more, but my memory is telling me that this beer resembles that with a touch more hop bitterness up front. Sweet IPA that's not as bitter as the 100 IBUs would suggest and does have a slight malty backbone. A very good and enjoybale DIPA.
