Appearance: Arrives with an amber color verging on golden; the ivory head is thick and leaves considerable lacing behind

Smell: Biscuity malt with citrus and tropical fruit tones

Taste: Biscuity, up front, with grapefruit, mango, papaya and some pith developing in mid-palate; the malts keep the hops in check somewhat, but this is primarily a hoppy beer through and through

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation; I want to say the oats add some body and creaminess to the beer but that might well be the power of suggestion

Overall: A really impressive beer with an interesting twist to use oats with an IPA

Brewer's description: Double Oatmeal IPA came out to 8.3% ABV and 120 IBUs. Brewers with Summit and Amarillo hops.

This is a unique beer and I'm not sure I'm a fan. It pours a murky goldish tan and has an okay aroma with a standard hop bite to it.

Flavor is there upfront and is one I enjoy, but the finish clashes and I'm not a big fan. I like bright and crisp finishes on IPAs and this oatty finish lingers and works against the hop bitterness.

Overall this is interesting and I'm glad to try it. It is well made and crafted beer, just not a flavor profile a dig.

For all the addition of oats, which you'd expect to smooth things out, this one still packs quite a punch, lots of resiny bitterness, buttressed by citrusy hops and a very subtle smoothness that lurks in the background. If you look for it, the oats are there, to be sure. But this is still a big, brash West Coast-style DIPA at heart. Good drinkin'.
