On tap at The Map Room in Chicago, IL.

This one pours a darkish brown color, with a small white head, and lots of lacing.

This smells like toasted bready malt, cocoa powder, roast, and slight nuttiness.

This feels pretty much spot on for the style, with a wonderful creamy malt character, and very little hop character of any kind. There's almost a pecan like flavor, with bittersweet chocolate, and loads of bready malt goodness.

This is very creamy, and very drinkable, with a wonderfully smooth finish.

I could drink dunkel all day.

On draft at Kaiser Tiger [Chicago] into 1L krug.

Pours a dark brown with a thick white head. Medium body, full malt profile, well balanced as to be not too sweet. Easy drinking, and not boozy at all.

Absolutely delicious, yet with a fine tuned amount of not too robust chocolaty undertones. I think I could drink this all day and night and will attempt at this any given time.

Had on draft 7/31/21 @ Hopleaf.

Mostly opaque dark brown appearance, with a but of orange at the edges.

Small khaki head; strong lace.

Creamy, medium mouthfeel.

The nose & flavor was medium roast coffee, mild cream & faint hop bite. A very well made beer!

Hirter Morchl is a dark, deep, leathery brown. It's amost deep enough to look like a porter. The head is dense, cream colored, and lasting.
Very malt forward aroma. It smells like fresh baked loaves of dark rye and pumpkernickel breads. The nose is also slightly toasted and fairly sweet. Earthiness, nuts, and leather give the aroma depth and structure. Sweetness reminds me of the lactose sweetness in milk stouts, only more of a malted milk sort of profile. Aroma finishes soft and dry.
Mouthfeel is full side of medium with a prominent, up front sweetness. Other flavors are very rich in their maltiness, giving the same fresh baked rye and pumpernickel I found in the nose. The center reinforces the up front sweetness with flavors of ripe dates. Hints of leather and earth give a too brief balance to the beer's overall sweetness.
I'm having a hard time liking this as much as everyone else seems to. My main point of contention is the slick, rounded mouthfeel which is almost porter or stout-like in nature. Dark lager or not, this kind of throws me off a bit. Also, I'm having trouble getting past the beer's up front milk sweetness. Maybe my palate just needs to be more educated.

This is interesting, it's almost like a porter! You definitely feel and taste a lot of breadiness and biscuitiness in it with the roasted malts lingering in the background. Still, the mouthfeel is very similar to a lager, that light, semi-dry and carbonated - and missing any annoying too sweet or too roasted overtones. At one point it even reminds me of some good dark ales.
Overall a non-biased, enjoyable lager type beer.

Poured into a Chuckanut pint glass. Pours a dark orange brown with half finger, light khaki head with good retention and lacing. Aroma of dark, lightly toasted biscuit malt, light cocoa and dark stone fruit. Flavor follows, with toasted biscuit malt, cocoa and hints of dark stone fruit and dates; light grassy hops in the finish. Medium bodied with slight creaminess. Hits all the marks for a dunkel lager. This bottle has some flavors that seem a little tired, and I see that the bottling date is from late last year, so at this ABV, it may be over its best point. That being so, the flavor is still good and has the dark maltiness and light fruit flavors I hope for in this style. Well done.

Hirter Morchl is a much better beer than the average ratings. Partly this is because the dunkel style is subtle and doesn't have the big point-getters of alcohol and hops. I want to have a side-by-side with my favorite, Weltenburger Barock.

While Hirter's rendition Looks good at the start, it does fade into average territory. But its Smell tells me malty smooth and reminds me of fruit cake. The roasted Dark malts provide some of the bitter along with modest hops to provide a very well-balanced beer. In the mouth, this has few rivals for smooth and soft.

My first from Hirter. I want more Morchl and others, too.

Had on tap. Chestnut opaque brown with a light brown head. Roasted malts, brown bread, to a lesser degree caramel, chocolate and roasted almond in the nose. Taste is sweeter up front and more bitter in the finish, but otherwise pretty much the same. Malty, smooth, medium bodied, but not very bready, drinks easy.

An all natural lager brewed with caramel malt and European hops. Clean, crisp and an easy drinking dark brew. Pleasantly rounded with a faint bitter aftertaste. GMO free and non pasteurized.

11.2oz bottle, bottled on 10.03.15, and poured into a bulbous pint glass. Hazy dark brown body floats virtually no head.
Toasted malt aromas are joined by hints of cocoa and stone fruit.
Sweet malt tastes match the aroma nicely. Mouthfeel is rich an creamy but not heavy.
Overall it excites me. More please.

Hirter Morchl brewed by Brauerei Hirt GmbH, with an ABV of 5.00% This brew pours out deep brown color with a nice off white head. This brew has the look of root beer, now I'm not saying that is a bad thing. The smell of Hirter Morchl is rich with roasted grains and malts. There is also a nice sweetness to the smell of this brew. There is also has a hit of hops in the smell of this brew. The look and smell of Hirter Morchl is really inviting. I really like the is brew so far. Now for the taste, it is bold with flavors. You pick up on roasted grains, malts and a hit of hops. Everything about this brew is well balanced. Hirter Morchl | Brauerei Hirt GmbH. Oured from the bottle into a pint glass, this brew's head is two fingers thick and tan, with lateral lacing, and a very dark brown body.

Smells like roasted/caramelized malts with full-bodied grains.

I taste a blend of roasted, very slight caramel, and biscuit malts. This flavor is actually quite reminiscent of an Irish red ale. Nothing here is offensive or overpowering. Just a nice, full-bodied dark lager, nearly red ale

The mouthfeel here is smooth and clean.

I'll choose to rate Hirter Morchl | Brauerei Hirt GmbH with an overall 4.5. I may or may not pick this up again.
