american amber ale is basically the last style i ever sign up to drink, not that i dont like them, its just they always tend to taste so similar, and less flavorful than what i like in a beer. thats why i was so surprised by this one when someone tossed me a can over the weekend last weekend. its a really rich and frothy and deep amber beer, far more robust in its flavor than most of its peers, even without much hops to it. the malt is so dense and autumnal and toasted tasting, not as sugary as some, but still with those molasses and maple hints to it, just not as caramelized in that normal amber sense. almost tastes like it has a little roast to it, has the depth and earthiness, and also has some bitterness that doesnt present itself as hop derived to my palate. unbrewed coffee beans, dried fig and apple, and a lightly bready yeast are all there, and there is a nice medium body on it as well and great carbonation too. i will almost never get overly stoked up on a basic amber, but this is a really well done beer, way more interesting and deep than the vast majority, and i enjoyed this a lot in an early fall context!

Looks like a solid coloring to it. With a smell of a wide mix of fruits to it. Tastes like a like a bitter and sweet caramel at the same time to give a good finish. The feeling is a smooth and uneventful one. Overall this was a fair beer that I won't scold nor complement.

Poured from 12 oz can into pint glass. Nothing special about the look or feel of this one. Weak red/amber color with too much head. More over carbonation than head. Something I didn't like about the smell and taste but can't put my finger in it. Just not impressed with this one from 603.

Aroma is caramelly sweet, with amber malt fruitiness and a hint of citrus.

Flavor is oddly caramelly, as well, which is fine because I'm not an amber fan. There's moderate amber fruitiness, some sharp citrus, and it finishes nutty and just a touch bitter.

As it warms, thinking there might be some diacetyl. Slickness.
