Brewed by:
Bucket Brewery
Rhode Island, United States

Style: American Porter

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.80%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
We designed this beer for runners competing in a race in Warwick City Park, but we liked it so much it became part of our lineup. This robust porter stays true to its British roots with grains and hops chosen to keep with old brewing traditions. Each taste delivers a complex blend of subtle coffee and almond notes with a rich toasty flavor throughout. This beer was a winner and we feel confident that you’ll be won over too.

On-tap 12/12/2012 at Track 84, in Warwick, RI served in a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep dark brown color, with a short dense beige head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is faint but contains roasted malts, coffee, some chocolate and a touch of hops.

T: The taste starts out with a hearty but not too heavy roasted malt character, which is on the lighter side for the style. Then some flavors of coffee and chocolate come in. The hops presence is mild but complementary and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Smooth and a little crisp, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is dry and slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, decent kick, good representation of style, this is a solider lighter than average porter to drink for a while.

12oz can. Pours a dark brownish black with ruby hues and almost no head. Barely any lacing. Malty aroma with light coffee and chocolate. A hint of cola. The taste is more of the cola taste with some roasted malts and a touch of espresso. Slightly nutty finish. Light mouthfeel with very little carbonation. Overall, ok.

Sampling a cold 32 oz growler poured into a small clear cup. ON vacation so didnt have great glass ware.
The beer pours a rich cola brown with minimal slightly frothy beige head on the pour. This is mostly gone immediately with only some large bubbles clinging to the sides and some windowpane lattice on the cup after each sip.
The aroma is rich and malty with chocolate bar and come roasted malt mixing nicely with some slight nutty notes and hints of brown sugar. Overall the nose is appealing but is on the mild side.
First sip reveals an average body with very fine and spacious carbonation.
Flavor is some chalky dark chocolate which moves to a bit of roasted malt and finishes sweeter than I thought with some chocolate kiss of sweetness. No hops that I pick up anywhere on this brew. I do find the ABV to be hidden very well and enjoy the beer. the growler says 7.8% abv and that definitely sneaks up on me by the end of the sampling.
A pretty good robust porter without being boozy. Id recommend to other Malty's.

Tasted at the brewery

Dark, dark brown where no light shines through. Good head that lasts throughout the tasting but little lace.

Coffee and chocolate malt aromas. There's a touch of medicinal band-aide unfortunately.

The flavor is a step up from the smell. Plenty of cocoa and mild coffee in the initial taste. Dark chocolate aftertaste. Good body and carbonation.

Poured from a 12oz can into an oversize snifter. Purchased in North Providence, RI.

Pours a deep brown body with a creamy light mocha colored head that reduces to a thin layer of retention and little lacing.

On the nose is coffee, toffee, slight plastic off note, caramel and a definite hop backbone.

On the tongue are big smokey notes, coffee, light chocolate, roasted malt. A little lacking on the body (slightly light), but flavors are pronounced. Light bitterness on the finish.

Overall not a bad beer.. I'd recategorize this as a smoked beer, as the distinct smokey flavor is prominent.
