Lil' HeavenLil' Heaven
Notes: Named for a secret room in out century-old factory building turned brewery where workers once snuck away for clandestine "breaks." Lil' Heaven is brewed with three American grown hops that result in an intensely flavorful IPA with tropical notes of passion fruit, grapefruit and lychee.

On-tap 6/18/2014 at Track 84, in Warwick, RI served in a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep gold color, with a thin off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is faint but contains some hops, light caramelized malts and citrus.

T: The taste starts out with some breadiness from a hearty but not too heavy malt character. Then some citrus and caramel sweetness follows. The hops presence is a bit subdued even for the “Session IPA” sub-style, but there is still a good balance. The after-taste is slightly hoppy and slightly bready.

M: Crisp and a little smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is clean.

O: Tasty, goes down very easily, not too filling, mild kick, good representation of style, it’s a decent poundable IPA to drink for a while but there are other beers I would choose first to fill that role.

really stoked to see these guys selling beer in colorado now. i sure hope it lasts and isnt one of those blast in and blast out situations, and that the local market here can support them well enough to keep them around. i have not at all known them for their hoppy stuff, and have instead been more interested and impressed by their saison types, but have not seen those here yet. this is a great session ipa though, with an overtly mosaic forward hop profile in nose and taste, and a relative simplicity that i find very appealing in the style. couple that minimalist grain front with the dry and effervescent mouthfeel from the tap, and the juicy fresh hops, and youve got a real drinkable no fuss beer that makes an instant fan out of me. clean citrus, fresh pale malts, a drying but essentially irrelevant yeast strain, and a gorgeous balance, this is summer beer, but also all season crushing beer, beer geeky to some extent, and leagues better than many of its peers right now. i fear this may get lost in the shuffle here, but its great beer and worthy of some stoke from the folks who should be sick of mediocre beer in the style here in colorado. i enjoyed this one quite a lot, and hope the more heavy hitting two roads stuff makes it out as well!

Crisp. Citrusy, light hop profile. Lacing like 1840's French whore. Definitely a weekend starter. Certainly grilling companion. Surprisingly, a functional pallet cleanser.

This is an all purpose session that should be part of your warm weather beverage curriculum. It's also awesome this brewery is down the street from my old educational institution, St. James. One day I may have to enjoy some ice cold Lil Heaven on Academy Hill and reminisce about that time Mrs. Jordan berated me in front my 4th grade peers for not knowing we were going to an early lunch (due to my bathroom visit during the earlier announcement).

For a session IPA, this one has a pretty remarkable appearance. Blood orange, hazy, and two fingers of frothy white head. The last time I saw this much lace, I was rummaging through Kate Upton's lingerie drawer with Justin Verlander. I digress. The nose is a bouquet of tropical fruits, with a predominant whiff of orange peel. Taste follows suit delivering a wide array of grapefruit, lemon and mango notes. It's balanced on the back end by a grainy malt characteristic that allows the passion fruit to take center stage, without being overwhelming. This is surprisingly drinkable, and highly crushable, as the can suggests. It feels light-to-medium bodied, and were I drinking it blind, I wouldn't guess such a low ABV. A smidgen of prickliness on the tongue and I'm reminded that the session is almost (or far from) done. Seeing as how there's plenty of football left to watch, I think I'll have another. Two Roads' interpretation of the session IPA is definitely worth a try. Cheers.

Canned 8/20/14 so not too old, yay cans!

Pours a super large fizzy fluffy bubbly like head that fades fairly slowly, hits more than two fingers and rises above the rim but doesn't overflow, hazy sediment laden reddish orange color.

Nose is loaded with fresh hops, bright and aromatic at first, with mild tropical notes, fruity guava like and mild citrus fruit, mild stone fruit, very dank and musty, little resin, that all fades to a faintly sweet reddish malt.

Taste brings more sweet malt out front, candy like copper slight reddish malt, little sweetness balances with a fair bitterness that continues to increase. Hops bring a dank resinous slight piney flavor, with faint fruit, grassy and earthy. The hops get a bit pine forest floor and quite dank. Finish is semi sweet sticky, little malt note bit as it dries it gets very bitter and almost spicy like hop, quite dank.

Mouth is med bod, decent carb.

Overall ok, I wouldn't quite call it a session ipa as it was too malty at first then way too bitter on the finish. Still enjoyable.

This might be the best session IPA on the market, and I've tried a ton of them! Though it won't get the respect because people seem to not be too high on Two Roads and maybe with good reason.

Huge tropical, citrus pop when you cracked the can. Very complex for a session IPA. Not just bitterness!
There is some bread malt apparent too, not think and waterbury like so many in this genre.
The mouthfeel is much bigger than 4.8% would suggeat.
I dig this much more than Founders All Day.
Overall I belive a two Roads nailed this style. Best of thier regular rotation of beers for sure. These 12 packs can will be a staple in the summer of 16!
Get some.

When stopping at 2 roads I was severely underwhelmed by every beer I tasted. Their facility was very nice, their beers were sub par imo.

First beer I've ever had from Two Roads...

First smell was citrus and floral. More than I expected from a sessionable IPA. Taste also citrusy, and hoppy. Slight bitterness on the end. Feel was good but nothing more than I expected.

Overall, I would have to say this hands down the best Session IPA's I've had. I could see myself easily making this my go to. Easy to drink and goes down nice and easy!

The beer pours an orange color. The aroma is of orange zest & floral on the nose. The taste is the same along with a sour note shows itself leaning towards the finish. There is a packaged on date by the way so I know that we're within range. Cheers! B
