Pours a hazy yellow-orange color with no nice head and no lacing. Aroma was fruity with spicy hints. Taste was a nice pleasant balance of fruit and spice. Light bodied with little carbonation but a pleasant character. A nice decent lager.

First off, I cant believe I'm reviewing outside the IPA styles....lol!

I love lagers, Euro/Pale lagers are a fun style. Especially, unfiltered old-style brewing methods. This lager has only a slight tinted haze in a golden body. Very active carbonation creates some excellent coverage of white froth.

The nose is all about a sweet malty aroma. Honey/mead like sweetness, golden wheat and field grains, rice and corn adjuncts, finished off with a very old school style, green herbal and veggie, spicy hop effect under the malt.

This malty lager is sweet, honey sweet, with a crispy herbal/spice, hreen veggie hop thing for balance. The malty flavor is actually very complex, with sweet honey, buttered biscuits and charred wheat charecteristics. Honey-spice and sour tones are all over the after taste with a dry, herbal kick right at the end.

Overall, this is a very traditional version of this style with serious complexity.

Two Roads Brewing Company "Miles 2 Go"
12 fl. oz. brown glass bottle, "PKG 10OCT17 15:07" and sampled on 12/04/17
$2 @ Weis, Conshohocken, PA

Look: Very hazy golden body (it's unfiltered) with an orange sheen beneath a short head of white that falls shortly and leaves little lacing behind.
Smell: Yeasty with lightly toasty and grainy malt and an apple-like fruitiness.
Taste: The fruit comes forward in the flavor and is clear amidst the sweetish grainy malt. A moderate bitterness balances it and some of the lightly toasty grain found in the nose appears midway and then into the finish. It lingers shortly with some sweetness, fruit and a touch of spicy hops.
Feel: Medium-full in body with a fine, gently crisp carbonation that lends a little zing before it warms to become smoother.
Overall: An enjoyable beer that's perhaps a little full and sweet but which also offers a great malt component and yeasty fruitiness, and a surprising 6.2% alcohol by volume.

L: Slightly hazy, translucent golden-orange with a small white head. Medium-poor retention, with some spotty lacing.

S: Cooked apple and pear, biscuit, honey, vanilla, cracked cereal grains, hay, grass.

T: Cooked apple and pear, orange blossom, orange peel, grass, hay, toasted biscuit, cereal graininess, honey, and vanilla.

F: Medium-light bodied, medium-plus carbonation. Finishes a little sweet.

O: A decent Kellerbier. A little sweet for my tastes, but it's well made.

Had Zwickel beers when I was in Germany and loved them. This one doesn’t disappoint. Good, solid beer that tastes like I grabbed it straight out of the cellar !

Never had a kellerbier before, so this was somewhat of a new taste experience for me.

Appearance is hazy, style appropriate based on my reading. More cloudy than hazy if you're thinking like a NE IPA kind of thing. It's just a little murky, even after letting it sit for a bit after the initial pour. Saturated golden in color like a traditional pale ale.

Aroma: kinda funky actually, there's a definite yeast note. Its somewhat bready in that regard.

Flavor: malts tend towards the sweeter side, hop balance is tempered quite a bit by that.

Mouthfeel: just a bit sticky, it's actually closer to a robust IPA than you would ever find in a standard pale ale. Not sure if that is a kellerbier thing or something unique to this particular brew.

I liked having one of these but I might have been a little bummed with a six pack. Everybody should give it a shot, you might find it pretty drinkable and enjoyable.

Canned Oct 10, 2017

Light fizzy head fades semi quickly, a touch of lacing if that, a very hazy almost murky tan orange color

Nose brings bready doughy malts, not really lager malts more like a saison style malt profile, raw bread dough, yeast, citrus and a bit of phenol spice I think, a bit of straw like pilsner later

Taste brings more doughy malt raw bread dough, creamy, with fruity esters, citrus, banana I think, mild spices, coriander perhaps, dried orange peel, etc, a bit of bitterness, touch of grassy hop and citrus, biscuity dough, little yeasty, no lager characters, very creamy wheat like. Finishes drier mild bitterness and orange zest

Mouth is med to lighter bod, creamy, not crisp or lager feeling at all.

Overall this was a lot more like a hefe/saison style beer, nothing like a lager, and was not well executed or even a good recipe I think. THis is a rare big swing and miss for Two Roads. However, this is still a decent summer like beer.

Taste like a beer, not too much or two little, you'll see what mean...stronger plays from Two Roads out there.

Hey, this isn't an American Pale Lager, it's a Kellerbier! This uncommon (in America, anyway) style of beer is a form of smooth, sometimes strong, unfiltered/uncleared lager originating in Germany. Been looking forward to trying this one, since Two Roads has been nothing but solid lately. Didn't want to go all in on a six pack until I knew it was of high quality, but now I'm really craving more!

Pours a naturally cloudy, very hazy orange color with no head retention or lace to speak of. Hmm, I'm kind of surprised this doesn't have much going for it from the initial appearance. I mean, even the recent gose-style beers from 2R have had head retention, which I found unusual. This one just looks like a still beer. I do like the color, though.

Nose is slightly-lemony and strongly-doughy with a protein-filled, oat-like overtone that fills my sense of smell. Almost sourdough, but not quite... freshly-picked/cut apple, light apricot and somewhat muted notes of wheat and rye-like spice. This is perfectly evocative of what a kellerbier should be like from the nose alone... a complex mélange of clean, fruity and spicy elements that only an unfiltered beer can provide.

Incredible flavor on this one too, and so complex for something with no adjuncts! Deep oatmeal cookie-like maltiness with surprising dark fruit (raisin/plum), apricot, apple and grape skin notes. A complex herbal-focused hoppiness provides an open-ended finishing aspect to this lager. This deserves to be savored and enjoyed slowly to get the most out of it, unlike many modern lagers (esp. hop focused "IPLs"), as it has a really complex and deft handling of malt that I rarely see these days. It tastes like fresh grown barley, almost like Grape-Nuts cereal... intense and very earthy.

Feel is similarly excellent. This beer feels almost effortless on the tongue, but it has a lot of character... from the moderated carbonation to the hefty body that drinks like a much bigger, bolder beer, this is a near-perfect example of the kellerbier style, adapted to 2017 brewing standards in the US. I'm a big fan of this one and will likely revisit it very soon. I've heard it's a form of "Winter seasonal" for them (probably a rotating seasonal selection alongside their other offerings that come around during colder climes), and I have to say... this kind of lager is potentially the most apropos for the Winter season itself. It's rewarding, hearty and full of flavor, maltiness, character and spice without being itself dark or "spiced." Highly recommended!
