Style: German Pilsener

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Traditional in concept with a Two Roads twist…dry hops. We use a combination of classic German as well as American hop and malt varieties in our Pils. We renovated a 100 year-old factory building and designed this Pils to have “extra” aroma…so, pardon the pun! Crisp…refreshing…refined.

Hazy yellow, carbonated fully...light to medium body
Spicy, biscuity malt in the slosh
Plenty of hops in this dry hopped Pilsner...takes the top off the spiciness which is to my liking...
This Pilsner is really good, a little less character than the best I've had, I would buy it again

Notes from yesterday's share.

The pour of this beer is light and clear in a bright golden hue. A pretty good sized, 2.5 finger head forms and hangs around a while with pretty good lacing. Taking a smell, there is a a mild, light hoppy bitterness that is plainly evident from the dry hopping. The back end is the lightly grassy scent that is typical for the style. Light bitterness from the hops and a little bit of mineral-ness is present in the taste. Mostly, this is a light and crisp tasting beer with just a hint of returning bitterness at the end. On the palate, this beer drinks as expected, with a light and highly carbonated body that is very easy to drink.

Overall, nothing to write home about, but also a solid pils. The dry hopping adds a bit of character that makes it a little unique.

12 oz bottle.

Pours a hazy, pale gold color with a frothy, white head. Light bready, grainy pils malts in the aroma create the base for strong grassy, citrus (lemon) hops. Balance in the flavor shifts slightly more towards the hops, which create a bitter, spicy finish. Light bodied with just the right amount of carbonation.

Nice to see Two Roads on the shelves here in NJ! This is a pilsner with some character to it. Perfect for washing down my chicken cutlet, broccoli rabe, and fresh mozzarella sandwich from the local Italian deli.

Poured into a glass. Tasty pilsner. Light golden color. Little bit of a bite, clean finish. Some head on the pour. All in all a solid beer!

For those that may have missed The CANQuest (tm) during its recent hiatus, it's back with a vengeance! I have been diddling around with the bottle backlog, but a shift on my part away from my usual AIPAs and DIPAs has led me back to CANs. These are glorious times in which we live!

From the CAN: "Dry-Hopped Pils"; "The Road Less Traveled"; "Dry-Hopped Pilsner"; "Built to Please All the Senses!"; "Here's to taking the road traveled, in life and in beer!"

I Crack!ed the CAN open and I was met with a good bit of foam coming out of the vent. I decided to employ a gentle Glug since I am not a fan of cleaning up a huge mess when it foams over the lip of the glass. Sure enough, it came rising up like it was angry at me, forming three-plus fingers of soapy, eggshell-white head that fell as quickly as it rose. Color was a hazy Straw-Yellow (SRM = > 2, < 4). Nose smelled like lemon biscotti - bready, malty with a lemony tartness. Mouthfeel was medium. Taste was very lemon tart-like with a mild grassiness underlying it. It was definitely not a Czech-style Pils, but it was a bit intense for the German-style. Personally, I liked it, but intensity does not bother me. The finish was semi-dry and I really tasted lemon biscotti on the extreme finish.

12oz. can served in a shaker pint. Pours a bright straw gold with a loose, 1/8th inch, off-white head that quickly dissipates towards the edges. Nose is fairly subdued but expresses a hint of noble hops and lemon zest as well as a trace of caramel towards the back. Taste is earthy/herbal with a hint of skunk at the finish. Mouthfeel is light in body with a crisp carbonation. Overall, not a bad beer but I'd like something cleaner for the style.

Two Roads Brewing Co. "OL'FACTORY"
12 oz. brown glass bottle, "BTLD 04/16/15 09:10"

I absolutely love this beer! Brilliant. The hop character is spicy, grassy, lemony, herbal, and even a touch piney. The malt expresses pilsner malt, but there's subtly biscuity and nutty side to it as well which is probably coming form the residual yeast. It looks great, maintaining its fluffy white head for seemingly forever while leaving beautiful lacing behind (I don't mind the slight haze, and in fact like it, but I guess I do have to ding them there a little bit). Does it fit exactly what I think of when I think of German pilsner? No, but that's the beauty of it in a certain way. The body seems lighter (not that it necessarily is), and the hops really give it life. It's unique. Excellent! When I saw this I knew I had to pick it up based on the quality of their Saison, and from this point on I'll try any of their beers that I see.
