Style: Russian Imperial Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 10.90%

Availability: Winter

Notes / Commercial Description:
In honor of Stratford’s aviation pioneer Igor Sikorsky, we’ve created this most unorthodox Russian Imperial Stout. Made with rye and aged in oak whiskey barrels that give it a depth of character like no other, we think Igor would be pleased with the attention to detail in our creation.

On tap at New York Pizza. Pours a pitch black color with over an inch of dark brown head. Some lacing. The aroma is booze with some vanilla, oak, chocolate and toffee. The taste is booze and chocolate upfront followed by some oak roasted malts, sweet coffee and toffee. Hints of smoke, earth. Creamy mouthfeel. Doesn't taste as hot as I thought it would. A bit earthy. I didn't get to grab a bottle of this when it was released at the brewery so I'm glad I got a chance to have it on tap. Overall, solid Imperial Stout.

don't get me wrong...a good beer but i personally would prefer them to be a bit sweeter & fuller. had a 5 year vertical (13' - 17') at the source on igor day. each year was on the thinner side. 13' & 14' were very smooth, roasty in flavor w/ a mild barrel character. the 15' had the the whiskey bite and was the best overall imo. 16' & 17' were hot. glad to finally tick these and am looking forward to this years armagnac variant!

On tap at York River Landing.
Black in color. Small tan head.
Aroma equal parts roasted malt and booze.
Whiskey, espresso, and bittersweet taste.
Too hot for me. The alcohol shouldn't be the predominant taste.

Had on tap at the brewery--served into a tulip

Appearance: black in color, 1 inch head, opaque, low carbonation

Smell: roasted malt, chocolate, and whiskey

Taste: dark and sweet chocolate, roasted malt, vanilla, whiskey, then a big dose of oak

Mouthfeel: heavy bodied, medium-low carbonation, chewy, sweet with light bitterness due to the oaking

Overall: This beer is phenomenal. I think it may be my new favorite RIS and is certainly in my top 10 of any style. I love the oaking and the deep vanilla taste. The flavors come out one by one and jump and the beer becomes more complex as it warms. I would certainly pick some up if you can find it. That said, I do think the $20 price tag is a bit high for any beer, but...If you are ok with paying those prices, this one did not disappoint. The best beer from the brewery so far.

Black color with tan head. Aroma has nice whiskey barrel, sweet malt and an interesting perfume. Taste is roasty, bitter with dark chocolate. Spicy, dry and slightly boozy.

Summer 16 - pours pitch black, ring of tan foam. Coffee nose. Espresso. Smooth coffee blasted flavor. Some dark chocolate. Very bitter. Long milky bitter finish. Nice taste but the bitter is really strong. Hearty.
