Park Tavern

 

Odd spot for a bar. Across from a parking garage and a transient hotel, around the corner from Church's chicken. Yeah. Not really a destination area. This used to be Moretti's, came here to see Cassy dj some years ago. It's kinda by United Center and the Medical District, but that's about it. Cavernous space inside past the revolving door, almost too big. Wandered to the bar in the back, as that's where a bartender was. Super high ceilings, worn wood paneling on some of the back walls, two modern bars with 80 lines each, but each side were the same beers. So that's 160 draft lines in here... For 40 beers, its kinda overkill.

Service was quick, I think I was the only patron that didn't work there. Guy next to me was off work and having a mixed drink. Just had a Daisy Cutter and was on my merry way. The beer list was marginally locally focused, a couple each from Half Acre, Rev, Goose, Finch's, Tighthead, Wild Onion (seemed to be the most unusual with Hop Slayer and Phat Chance Blonde). Some Bells, Lakefront, DFH, Argus, Lagunitas. So much beer, and so little to drink. Call me a snob, but the list here is just plain boring.

Beer Bistro, Bottom Lounge, Jak's, etc are nearby and better for beer and/or televised sports... Haymarket, Au Cheval, and Publican for an elevated beer/food experience west of the Loop. There's another one of these in Rosemont, and it seems more appropriate for that area.
