Can Date: 8/29/17
Palate Contaminants: other beer

Appearance is medium-light straw color. It's opaque, too, with a moderate amount of fine head.

Scent is piney with lots of sweet and bitter white grapefruit. Simple, but pure. I like it. There's some depth in that grapefruit part, too.

Taste is principally pine nuts and grapefruit, and they're toward the dynamic-and-deep end. In other words, it's actually pretty close to grapefruit juice, with some savoriness, light bitterness, and a bit of sweetness. There's also something that strikes me as grape leaf. Smokiness, too. The citrus even shades toward bitter orange.

Carbonation is very well integrated. Very smooth. The aftertaste matches the taste nicely, and the richness hangs around for a while.

Can dated 8/29/17 into pint glass. Pours a hazy yellowish amber with a thick off-white head that dissipates quickly. Initial impression is juicy grapefruit, mango, orange, and peaches, nicely offset by bready malts and a hint of caramel. There is a surprising amount of dankness that moves to the forefront toward the latter stages. Mouthfeel is perfect as is carbonation. Finish is lingering and slightly bitter. This is a very good IPA.

Canned 8 days ago.

L -- Pours a fairly hazy orange with a big, soapy white head produced with moderately aerated pour. Good retention and lacing
S -- Pineapple, mango, grapefruit flesh, and some peachy sweetness. Very clean
T -- Definitely has that Pacific Northwest grassy/earthen hop bitterness, but with a juicy NEIPA character overlaid. Good amount of dank citrus, weed, pine. Crackery malts
F -- Light mouthfeel, medium carb. Super drinkable but the bitterness is pretty intense
O -- Really interesting interpretation of a PNW IPA. Up in Boston, at least, the pricing is ridiculous @ $20/4-pack

I'm absolutely convinced Singlecut is the most criminally underrated brewery on BA. I can't understand what it is but in my opinion I think they just go over the heads of alot of folks. Anyway, this beer is such a phenomenal display of NEIPA - smooth, amazing mouthfeel, the right amount of bitterness that checks a mild malt sweetness. Aroma is a heady mix of tropics and citrus, they do aroma as well as anyone. I really like their signature dankness that is always present. Taste is like that too on this brew, with an oaty full malt balance. Nicely carbed, great lacing. And I can pick it up anytime I want when it's available. Ah that might be the reason they're underrated, too accessible? Because folks didn't wait in a line two hours for it?

Color is typical of an IPA. Very floral aroma with a good hint of hops. The taste is hoppy, floral with a bready aftertaste. Good to above average beer. If you see it, try it!

A buddy of mine, who shall remain unnamed, keeps gifting beers of various stripes to me. I have cautioned him that I am working diligently to reduce & eradicate my Bottle Backlog, but when he offers up something for The CANQuest (tm), I find it very hard to resist.

From the CAN: "Mastery Knows No Shortcut"; "'Does Anybody Remember Laughter?' IPA is created from our brewmaster's recipe honed to perfection with an entirely original combination of PNWhops totaling 110 IBU's."; "SingleCut Beersmiths is proud to maintain the American tradition of beer locally made from craft by zealots/ lunatics who believe hard work, truth, pride and passion always should come before profit."; "Drink ASAP in a clean, wide-mouthed glass * Store cold and upright * Unfiltered, pour carefully".

As I Crack!ed the CAN open, I kept in mind their admonition about it being unfiltered, so I went with a very gentle Glug. Once sufficiently deCANted, I employed an in-glass swirl to raise two-plus fingers of foamy, soapy, rocky, French Vanilla-colored head with modest retention. Color was an oh-so-slightly-hazy Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 - 5). Nose smelled like freshly-squeezed grapefruit juice. Mmm. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was not at all as bitter as the nose had led me to expect. Instead, there was a good deal of fruitiness present, from peaches and blueberries to grapefruit as well as an m.j.-like dankness, which should not be a shock since m.j. & hops are in the same family. Finish was dry, but not overwhelmingly bitter as so many in the style try to rock you with their IBUs. This may have been measured at 110 IBUs, but it did not drink like it. Many thanks for the hook-up!
