This is a very sneaky brew. I was expecting more flavor, and was looking for a more Maple notes, but it opens up quite nicely. This beer was very drinkable, and I couldn't taste or feel the alcohol at all. It is not too syrupy or thick, and goes down smooth. Very enjoyable brew.

The 2017 Rye Barrel
Pours black with a dense, thick tan head that sticks around for the duration, leaving a ring of lace with each sip
Aroma of oak, licorice, cocoa, and vanilla
Lots of cocoa and spicy rye whiskey notes. Mellow vanilla undertones, a bit of maple syrup and dried cherry as well
Velvety smooth with lower carbonation.
Glad I sat on this one for a couple of years. A nice sipper as a reward for a great day fishing!

Picked up a bomber at Ma and Pa’s Alton, NY . Not familiar with this Beer but love brewery; love big stouts and...$7.99?? No prob!
Unsure year/version... nothing noted on bottle.
Split into snifters... drank first cold and 2nd glass about an hour later.
Nice looking and nice nose. A bit roasty on taste; thick but a bit bright on carbonation. Good but overall seemed a bit pushy.
Whoa! 2nd glass it all came together. Like two beers. The bite and the bright settled down into a rich more velvety complex brew. Decadent chocolate with subtle hints of dried fruit and licorice. Didn’t notice wood but vanilla was present. Unsure if BA or not... but a great sipper.
This beer really needs to breathe and be enjoyed at room temperature...maybe a bit cellared chill... but I’d suggest as little chill as your preferences would permit.
Really enjoyed this beer. Scores reflect average between the two tastings. Other reviews range higher and considerably lower across different versions. Very pleased with what I bought.

Poured from a 24 ounce bottle into a pint glass. Looks black with a darker that most head that settles down with a 1/4 remaining. Good lacing on the glass. It smells like roasted malts and a little bitter. The first sip was a real eye opener for me. It was much more bitter than I am used to. I cannot tell it it is too coffee forward or over the top with the roasted malts. I love my stouts but am having a tough time with this one. As I work through the glass I can start to taste the honey in the finish and am picking up the rye. Half way through and I can now easily smell the booze and the bitter roast taste is not as overpowering. For anyone trying this beer I would say let it warm and sit for a bit. For me it is just too bitter. I would not purchase again. Update: I drain poured the last 3 inches in the glass. Too bitter.
