A: Poured from the half-growler into a Duvel tulip. Body is hazy golden-orange, which becomes more dark-orange when backlit. Half-finger white head on top.

S: Faint tropical fruit over sweet citrus and grapefruit peel. Pleasant nose, just not terribly strong.

T: First impression is the juicy mouthfeel. Now THIS is a solid example of the NE-style IPA. Tastes of tropical fruit (mango and papaya come to mind), clementine oranges, grapefruit peel and a touch of pineapple juice at the finish. Hint of leafy green hops as well. Tastes more like OJ cut with pineapple juice than beer. Hint of drying astringency from the alcohol at the finish.

M: Juicy. Carbonation is quite modest.

O: This DDH version improves on the "straight" SSMS. Goes down far too easily for a beer of this strength. Part of me wishes I'd gotten a full growler (instead of the half), but the part of me that has to get up at 5:30 a.m. to catch a Yankee game tomorrow is glad I didn't get the full growler.

Very hazy opaque orange brew. Very good head retention.

Huge hop aroma: tropical and citrus fruit and peppery vegetal notes. Parsley and pineapple.

Flavor follows, with pineapple, mandarin orange, berries, and a strong mango note on the finish. Honey and pale malt.

Smooth feel, a touch syrupy.

16oz. can into a Surly teku.

Not only muddy... but dark and muddy. Nose has hints of citrus and pineapple with a woodland hop presence. Pretty mellow. Beer opens dank and hoppy. There's a certain astringency here but its mellow and well covered by the citrus fruit presence. Hints of tea, dried leaves, grapefruit and bark in the middle. More citrus fruit, twig and a biting hop presence at the finish. Decent. Body is medium with ample carbonation. Prickly and lively on the palate and goes down aggressive. Pretty nice feel.

Overall, I had higher hopes for this one. As is, its not bad but I actually prefer the non-dry hopped version.

On tap at Tap and Mallet in Rochester, NY.

This one pours a quite hazy and creamy looking orange, with a small head and a lot of lacing.

Smells like a pretty ridiculous amount of juicy mango and melon, with some dank marijuana type aromas as well.

This is much less bitter than the regular version of SSMS, which does kind of make it less balanced. This is still very tasty though, as there's just an absurd amount of juicy fruit flavor- tons of mango and melon, and some guava, with a little bit of dankness on the finish.

This is pretty rich- not syrupy, but definitely a slow sipper, with a good level of carbonation.

This is definitely one of SingleCut's better beers.
