Happy New Cut a Single in Minneapolis, MN Beer Sunday (Week 668)!

As usual, I have a planned theme for today. Here in PA, we get distro from seemingly everywhere & it is tough to keep up with all of the newest releases. It is even more spectacular that they are coming to us in CANs for the furtherance of The CANQuest (tm). Let the fun begin!

From the CAN: "Please recycle * Keep America beautiful"; "Rulpsen says: 'Come visit the brewery!'"; "100% Brewed and CANned on premises by SingleCut Beersmiths"; "SingleCut Beersmiths is proud to maintain the Ameri[CAN] tradition of beer locally made from craft by zealots/lunatics who believe hard work, truth, pride and passion should always come before profit."; "Mastery knows no shortcut"; "Drink ASAP in a clean, wide mouthed glass * Store cold and upright * Unfiltered, pour carefully".

Having Crack!ed the CAN open, I CANmenced the gentlest Glug possible, but halfway into it, it became obvious that this was truly unfiltered and no amount of gentleness was going to make a difference. That is not to say that I suddenly inverted the CAN, however, just that I CANtinued to allow the CANtents to run unabated into my awaiting glass. It produced two fingers of foamy, rocky, bone-white head with good retention that left behind some nice lacing. Color was a cloudy Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7), kind of like freshly-squeezed grapefruit juice. Nose was both tropical & catty, like Simcoe the kitty had gotten loose among the mangoes, papayas & guavas. 8=O If I ever get a cat, its name will be Simcoe! Mouthfeel was medium, but it did not have that graininess that I dislike in these unfiltered NE-style AIPAs, which was good. I did not taste Simcoe in the mouth, however. Instead, it was almost sweet with a lot of tropical fruit flavors, ranging from pineapples & tangerines to the aforementioned mango, papaya, guava flavors. There was also a slight, earthy bitterness, but it was not Citra nor Cascade. Columbus, perhaps? I spent most of yesterday immersed in Stouts, so for this self-described, self-avowed hophead, this was a welcome return to my passion. Finish was dry & I would have said low in its IBUs until I looked at the CAN: "94 IBU's". 8=O Extremely drinkable & leaving no question as to why it is so highly rated on this site! Thanks you for coming to southcentral PA, you beersmiths, and I will try to look you up the next time that I am in town.

Tap at deCiccios in Millwood NY

Typical NE IPA look, clouded with fine whispy lacing all over the glass

Grapefruit on the nose and loaded onto the palate, fresh and tasty...well worth a try

A: Hazy orange/yellow with a good 1" head and sticky lacing.
S: Citrus, hops, pine, and floral.
T: Follows the nose, very citrus forward with a bite and nice mouthfeel. Very balanced and drinkable beer.
M: Medium
O: Very well done DDH IPA, flavors are on point, hoppy and bitter but at the right amounts. Perfect beer.
F: This gets a fresh factor of 4 weeks old.... FRESH

Love the cloudy color. The aroma is is killer. A great dry-hopped citrus taste that cleanses your pallet! Saving a can for my drummer!

On Tap at Foundry, Northampton, MA. Full notes taken on IPA day.

A- Draft reveals a hazy golden brew into my snifter with a fluffy white cap rising up to one finger high. Decent head retention and spotty lace mostly besides one stray sheet.

S- Mostly tropical and stone fruit nectar. Slight soft citrus like tangerines or clementine. Melon and bubble gum hint. Floral touch and basal crackery grain.

T- Becomes a bit more citrus forward but still focus on the juicy tropical stone fruits and melon. Mango, tangerine, grapefruit, floral and dank herbs. Mostly hops. Tiny yeast influence.

MF- Fluffy and creamy medium body with very high carbonation. Ends with medium bitterness. Silllllky smooth.

Melon and tropical fruit hops for the most part with a touch of citrus in there as well. SingleCut rolling out more and more good IPAs.

BO 11-21-17
16oz Spiegelau IPA. Light orange, cloudy. Nice lacing, very slow.
Aroma is slightly dank, orange, melon, GF and pine. Hoppy. Taste is heavy on the tropical juicy side..orange/mango, and pine. The melon was no where to be found? MF was medium, frothy.. mid-level bitterness and carbonation.. quickly blanketed by the creaminess.

I'm not going to say I was let down by Charlie, it's a very good beer.. but I found the flavors muddled.

Good, lasting head with plenty of lace. Very cloudy which creates a whitish amber color.

Weedy, green hop smell. Attractive in a raw hop sort of way.

Very hoppy overall with a strong level of carbonation. There's a pale malt base but it quickly disapates from the strong bittering hop. This is a green beer with raw flavors.
