Pours a velvety midnight black with single finger of lathery khaki foam that dissipates rather quickly, but clings for a while.

Roasted malts, rye, chocolate, and dark fruits.

Tons of roasted malt flavor, chocolate, coffee, and whiskey.

Heavy-bodied, light-medium carbonation, bitter, chewy, and very smooth.

Overall, I was incredibly surprised at how great this brew is. Fantastic job Spiteful!

A: Dark brown, translucent, beige head
S: Dark chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, hint of oak, dark fruit, toffee, roasty
T: Dark chocolate, roasty, bourbon, coffee, vanilla, cola, molasses, mild bitterness
M: Medium
O: Excellent example of a BA Porter. The barrel character melds with the base instead of covering it up

L - dark black-brown, very thin khaki head
S - chocolate, espresso, followed by a fairly strong ethyl alcohol presence and a light oakiness
T - sweet chocolate notes, dark-roasted coffee with a bright berry finish, sharp bitterness at the very end
F - feels a bit more full-bodied than the average porter, but still on the lighter side if you're used to heavy barrel-aged stouts
O - the hop character that defines the non-BA version of this beer is faded, but that's to be expected. It's a nice "lighter" offering that is really delicious.

22 oz. bottle, no bottled on date or Batch # this time. Spiteful Brewing God Damn Pigeon Porter aged in rye whiskey barrels from 7-5-13 to 5-19-14. I was lucky enough to acquired this bottle and the other two barrel-aged Spiteful beers from the local beer store for $17.98 a piece. Expectations are excellent.

Poured into a Duvel tulip glass.

A - It pours a dark brown colored body, opaque black in the glass with a finger of dark mocha head. Leaves behind some good spotty lacing. Looks a lot like the original version of the beer. Appears adequately carbonated.

S - A heavenly aroma - vanilla, cream, oak, whiskey booze heat, cookie dough.

T - The taste follows the nose - creamy, boozy, vanilla, oak, rye whiskey alcohol warmth.

M - The feel is silky smooth and creamy. Medium-full bodied, with perfect low lying carbonation. Mild alcohol / whiskey warmth on the finish.

Overall, a delicious barrel-aged rendition of the base beer from Spiteful Brewing. Definitely looking forward to trying the other barrel aged beers.

Appearance: Pours jet black. Half a finger of dark brown head. Above average active carbonation for a BA beer.

Smell: Vanilla, oak, and a touch of rye on the front. Rounded, robust malts provide a great body, adding a pleasant touch of sweetness. Toffee and caramel warm up on the body. The bourbon nose continues throughout, in such a wonderful way.

Taste: Rye hits on the front. Pleasant body of slightly bitter chocolate, vanilla, oak, and medium bodied malts. The back end really dries out with building barley, oats, and malts. A touch of booze shows up on the back end but does not come off in a negative way.

Mouthfeel: Great transitions throughout. The front is full bodied and semi-sweet with big vanilla and oak notes but then turns with a heavier dryness on the back end. Carbonation fits really well.

Overall: This is quite a treat. The Rye whiskey characteristics really take the base beer over but I am certainly not complaining. I love Spiteful, they continue to show themselves as a standout in the Chicago craft scene. Have no hesitation snapping one of these up with the pricetag, if you are still able to find any.
