22 ounce bottle into a snifter. Aged in bourbon barrels from 1/20/15 to 11/16/15. Had this on 5/1/16.

Pours a hazy dark amber, with a slight head and not much lacing. Smells really good- malt, bourbon, figs, dates, cherries, butterscotch, toffee, some plums, licorice as it warms. The taste also leads with the malt, then figs, bourbon, some oak, caramel, butterscotch, vanilla, raisins, plums, a light bitterness on the finish. Great flavor. Smooth. solid and full body, the taste lingers.

Big flavor and aroma, well blended, barrels don't overwhelm. Big effort from Spiteful.

22oz brown bomber from the brewery.

Thin lacing from a ultra modest carbonation, pours thick with a hazed opaque brownish hue. Smells of booze, figs, wood, caramel, and brown bread. Smacks of the barrel-aging, creamy with a deep smoothness. Warmth is huge, sweetness is hefty as well. Wood and booze struggle to hold the sweetness down. Fun to sip, a bottle to share. Not for the faint of palate.

Not sure if I expected this to be less balanced but what I found was a very smooth, well put together offering. The hoppy notes don't overwhelm the caramelly malty backbone but provide a nice contrast to the sweet elements here. Toffee and butterscotch come in as it warms. Bitter without being harsh, each piece blends in well. The barrel isn't a massive feel here by any means either, but adds extra layers.

look great, a little dark as im being picky as i like my barleywines to look a little more maroon instead of brown. first couple sips it tastes a bit too too hoppy, then it as it warms really mellows out and the vanilla and caramel flavors shine. excellent beer, and i prefer english to american barleywines.

650ml bottle. Served in a snifter glass.

Pours a dark caramel brown body, one finger white head, good retention, not much lacing. Smells of caramel, toffee, bourbon, butterscotch, a bit of vanilla. Sweet. A slight hop bite as well. Flavour is very sweet, with a lot of butterscotch, caramel, toffee. Barrel character is there as well, with a bit of vanilla and wood. A decent hop bite on the backend as well, imparts some bitterness. Mouthfeel is fuller bodied, slick, appropriately carbonated, balanced on the finish. A more than solid bourbon barrel barleywine that is on the hoppy side. I personally find it a bit too sweet. This perhaps could use some more barrel to counteract the sweetness.
