@FBarber sent this my direction during NBS BIF #13. 2020 can pictured.

Pours a beautiful rich black. Massive towering dark brown head that slowly works its way back down to the surface of the liquid. A few stray wet islands of lacing remain, but that's about it.

Nose is creamy chocolate and rich roasty dark brown coffee. Maybe some light char and oatmeal. Almost makes me think more imperial porter than imperial stout, as meaningless of a distinction as that is.

Tasty, and much toastier than the aroma. More char, and a more bitter dark coffee second half. This swings much more into the classic stout territory.

Creamy more than it's thick, and oily and bitter with the char.

This is really really tasty. I like it a lot. Thank you, Frank, for sending it my direction!

Pours seal brown, topped by nearly an inch of fine, tan froth. Aroma smells of roasted malt, peanut shells, and salted caramel.

The taste follows the nose, featuring nutty roasted malt and coffee up front, succeeded by a wave of earthy, herbal hops. Warming reveals notes of caramel, char, and toasted bread. Medium body and modest carbonation make for fluffy yet substantive mouthfeel.

Overall, this is a robust, roasty stout that leans a little to the bitter. A solid option if you're looking for a change of pace from more decadent, behemoth stouts that are so plentiful these days.

16oz can. Tall brown head holds excellent retention atop a pitch black body. Roasty aroma also hinting at dark baker's chocolate and French roast coffee. Bold freshly roasted barley dominates the palate; burnt toast, dark cocoa, very dark roast coffee, and earthy hops round out the flavors. Fuller body, ample carbonation, bitter and dry finish with roast and earthy hops lingering. A very good, robust and roasty American Stout. Finally got to try this one.

Roasty and robust stout. Thick and chewy for a single stout, and all things dark in feel. The taste is bitter, with coffee, dark chocolate, smoke, roasted malt, charred wood, and some tobacco. Smell is bitter roasted malt and booze with metal that really distracts.

The first thing I would say about this beer is “coffee”. The second thing I would say about this beer is “coffee”. It certainly does deliver in that regard. Poura very dark, some brown hues, A lot of fluffy thick head that dissipates quickly and leaves minimal lacing. Smell is Rusty malt and coffee fighting it out. Slight hint of vanilla underneath. Taste is sweet roastu malt with a very healthy coffee presence. Faint notes of vanilla and nuttiness are there. Feel is thin to medium body. If there’s one complaint I have about this beer, it’s that I was hoping it would be thicker. It’s not oily, which is nice, it’s mildly mouth watering, and there’s a mild alcohol presence. Is it good? Yes. Is it among the best coffee stouts out there? No. Would I buy it again? Probably, if there were no other ones available (like FBS or Dark Secret by Brickstone). Is it worth trying? Absolutely. Just have it at room temperature. Cold, it’s way too thin in my opinion.

Iron & Glass - Romeoville, IL

G.F.Y. Stout is blacker than black. Oh, wait, lookey here, a razor thin garnet highlight at the bottom of the glass when directly backlit. The mocha foam is tiny bubbled and silky, also quite active, crackling. It's a couple finger in height on the pour and falls to a skimcoat after a few minutes in the glass. Dark and handsome.

The nose is big and bold and bad to the bone. A sturdy roast gets it moving, deeply roasted barley. Black, bitter coffee where too many grounds were added to the pot. There's a smattering of brown sugar macerated blackberries that's adds depth. It's a little jammy and a lot roasty. The coffee notes brighten with some warmth and there's a solid nuttiness, hazelnut to be precise.

The roast dominates the flavor as well. Deeply roasted barley runs from front to back and is met by hazelnut in the middle with a touch of vanilla. Those berries I mentioned above bring about some rich sweetness but it's no match for the roast. Black coffee works its way in and out, here and there. Again, this beer is bold and roasty and bad to the bone.

Spiteful always does a great job with the feel of their stouts. This one here is full bodied and velvety smooth. There's some weight, it's plush and luxurious. There's a touch of sweetness on the swallow before the roast bitterness dries it up. A whisp of alcohol rises through the nose. This is a WInter's night's dream.

G.F.Y. is yet another exemplary style from the guys at Spiteful. It's rich and bold and robust. It's extremely well crafted and an absolute joy to drink. Not a lot of stouts out there with this quality.

Aroma is roasted malts, earthy and coffee. The flavor is big roasted malts, medium chocolate, coffee, mild earthiness and an acidic/oily finish/texture.
