Style: American Porter

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.20%

Notes / Commercial Description:
Out God Damn Pigeon Porter was brewed with our friends from across the pond in mind. We use traditional English Amber malt, but being the unruly Americans we are, we put our own happy twist on things. One of our favorite hops, Simcoe, was added late in the bail. This delightful porter will take your mind off the everyday nuisances of living in a big city, especially those f-ing pigeons!

Very hoppy - as you'd expect from an American porter. Very good example of the style.

16oz can pkgd 11/15/17 poured into a tall tulip boasts a deep, dark, mahogany-leaning, muddy brown body, floating a persistent 1/2in milk chocolate brown head and leaving sheets of artistic lacing.

The aroma is roast malt, cocoa, and slightly metallic.

Flavors start creamy chocolate roast malt, hinting at coffee, or mocha, really and then opening to an almost sticky hop presence, before clearing the pallette with a mix of cocoa and grassiness.

Mouthfeel is full and creamy with a clean finish.

Overall an impressive porter.

For a porter this beer isn't very dark. Some say the head is khaki but I maintain that is closer to beige. Also, it dissipates quickly.
The aroma isn't very bold or balanced. Lacks depth.
The flavor profile, oddly enough, does not follow the "nose," as some call it.
Not at all creamy, except for the finish when the carbonation drops off making it appear heavy.

Iron & Glass - Romeoville, IL

God Damn Pigeon Porter is about as black as black gets. It swallows light. The khaki head is incredibly creamy and easily grows to a finger plus on the pour. The staying power is up there. 20 minutes after the pour and there's still a sturdy crown while sticky lacing adorns the glass. This is a handsome beer.

The nose is bold yet balanced with a ton of depth. Moderately roasty off the bat with a hint of dark roast coffee to boot and a dash of cream. Earthy and pine driven hops are robust but not overdone. Pure cocoa powder and caramel make up the middle. Deep pulls bring about a touch of char and a whiff of clean alcohol. Macerated blackberries are faint in the background. The nose on this guy has it all.

The flavor profile follows the nose closely. It's roasty bitter upfront before segueing into all those great intricacies that the nose suggested. It goes from moderate roast to the earthy and pine hop character. This is followed immediately by dark roast coffee and dark chocolate. The finish is pure, unadulterated cocoa powder and the macerated blackberries. The pine, though falling to the background, is present through the finish as well. Complex yet well rounded and delicious.

This porter is creamy up front with a little heft. The carbonation picks up as it moves along making for a slightly lighter feel on the finish. It eventually dries up on the swallow but it takes a few seconds. The bitterness grows to moderate and lingers a few seconds more. This is incredibly satisfying yet easy drinking all in one.

God Damn Pigeon Porter is a hell of a drink. It's rich and bitter. Complex and well rounded. Great bitterness from the roast and hop additions while layer upon layer of subtleties fill in the blanks. I pick this one up pretty often and would suggest that you do the same.

This may be my new stand-by Porter, well... if I could get my hands on it regularly. Distinctly strong, hoppy, roasty, with a baker's chocolate aroma and finish to this. Color is great, mouthfeel fantastic, lively, and as it warms it gets that nice umami/soy taste to it. Just delicious. It might be my favorite of the Spiteful beers (so far). Although that maple variant of was also goddamn delicious.

Pours a clear dark brown color. 1/4 inch head of an off-white color. Decent retention and good lacing. Smells of maple syrup, coffee, roasted malt, sweet malt, alcohol, slight spicy hops, and yeast. Fits the style of an American Porter. Mouth feel is smooth and clean, with a low carbonation level. Tastes of maple syrup, coffee, roasted malt, sweet malt, alcohol, slight spicy hops, and yeast. Overall, average appearance, good complexity, blend, and great feel.

Poured from a 16oz can into a DFH chalice

Maroon brown with a mocha head that persists a while and then lingers as a layer across the top and as coating/lacing

Mostly malt and candy sweetness with little hint of hops would describe both the smell and the taste. Maybe a trace of coffee on the back of the mouth?

A thick feel, heavy unctuous Nice

This is great stuff. I have a bottle of the vanilla and have to wonder how it could be better.
