22 oz. bottle, no apparent bottled on date present, but the label reads "G.F.Y. Stout aged in bourbon barrels from 7-5-13 to 6-2-14". I'm going into this bottle unbiased, since I've never had the regular base beer before. Acquired this bottle at the local beer store for something like $17.98 plus tax. Expectations are stellar.
Poured into a Duvel tulip glass.
A - It pours an epic inky sludgey black colored body. Thick like motor oil with hardly any conjuration of head. It conjures about half a finger of extremely dark mocha when given a nice swirl in the glass. Leaves behind some thin lacing as it recedes but none really sticks. 4
S - A very beautiful aroma - vanilla, chocolate, fudge. A beautiful bourbon barrel aged aroma. Lightly oaky & woodsy, with some alcohol fumes noticeable. Rivals some of the bigger and badder bourbon barrel aged stouts that I've had like Bourbon County. 4.5
T - Taste is the same - vanilla, caramel / toffee, fudge, cookie dough, coffee beans, and lots of dark chocolate roastiness. Some warming alcohol heat on the finish. 4.5
M - Smooth, silky, & creamy. Minor alcohol heat lingering on the palate, but it otherwise goes down extremely easy for a bourbon barrel aged stout. 4.5
Overall, another wonderful bourbon barrel aged installemnt to Spiteful's portfolio. The alcohol warmth feels a bit deeper than the 8.00% abv noted, but it goes down easy nonetheless. Delicious, aromatic, and highly recommended.
