First time I had this beer via taster in April 2014 at Hamilton’s Tavern I became a Rip Current lover. Had it again last Father’s Day (2015) and finally got to rate it today. Thought it was amazing in 2014, awesome in 2015 and was hoping for something similar today.

Poured a caramel, orange, clear color with two fingers of off-white, frothy head when I got it. No bubbles at all. Very good foamy, spiderweb lacing on the sides of the glass. Average retention. (Sight - 4.25)

Smelled orange blossom, orange creamscicle, buttery caramel, floral, perfumes and orange dental floss. (Smell - 4.00)

Tasted boozy bitter orange rind, orange blossom, Simcoe, some kind of Galaxy/New Zealand hop hybrid, rye hops, floral hops, perfume, honey, pine and resin. (Taste - 4.00)

Medium-to-light body. Oily-to-creamy texture. Average carbonation. Bitter, boozy finish. (Feel - 4.00)

Nowhere as good as the last two tasters I had tried, but still damn tasty. (Overall - 4.00)

Pours a hazy dark golden yellow color with straw colored edges and a two finger frothy white head that very slowly settles into a lasting ring. Great retention, taking a while to settle and leaving streaks of soapy lacing behind.

Juicy floral hop aroma with dank, resinous oils and grassy pine countered by juicy tropical/citrus fruit and a pale malt backbone. Fresh cut grass, pine needle and spruce tip followed by prominent juicy mango, pineapple, papaya and grapefruit sweetness. Really topical with subtle pale malts. Some grainy cracker and biscuit. Smells great!

Fuller end of medium body with decent bitterness lingering over the sweetner notes and pale malt into a dry finish. Dry earthy bitterness up front but the fleshy fruit flavors really stand out. Strong tart grapefruit presence with mango, pineapple and strong boozy sweetness in the finish. Only has subtle heat but boozy flavor takes away from the hops. Could use more earthy bitterness and less alcohol but otherwise pretty solid.

Pours a sunny, yellow amber.

Oh my, I could just live in the aroma of this beer. Sweet, hoppy, tropical. I love balanced beers and Rip Current hit the mark perfectly. More please!
