January 31st, 2015 - Rip Current's Nut Brown has been a staple on the menu for as long as I've been going to their North Park tasting room. Humble and oak colored in its little tasting goblet, it has a hard time catching the same attention as the bigger, bolder, hoppier brews on the menu. But it's a beautiful beer in its own right, and well worth starting with before lashing one's tongue with stronger things. The nose features a nutty, toasty quality. The board suggests toffee is present, too, which I can see, but if its there, it's dry, like dried caramel, or a Twix bar. There's subtler touches of almond, too. The flavor emphasizes toasted bread, slightly burnt by a few too many seconds in the toaster, but it's not overly exciting. The body is top-notch, light without being thin, and helps the toffee flavor float and kick a little.
