Great lower abv stout. I usually go after 10+% and was blown away at how great this 5.8% tasted.

Very dark with a nice dark tan/light brown head.

Not a strong smell but very pleasant and balanced. Nothing specific stood out on the nose but overall th smell was nice and matched the taste well.

Taste was light lactose sweetness with smooth milk chocolate.

Mouthfeel was light-bodied and silky.

Overall, very impressive. By far the best low abv stout I've had. Highly recommended.

October 3rd, 2015 - Rip Current is making some of the best and most consistent dark brews in the North Par area and they submit another winner to the taproom with this Milkstache. Not spotted since I first enjoyed this, it has a great aroma of chocolate, like the sort of expensive chocolate that you receive as a gift but never purchase for yourself, with some sweeter cushioning smelling more of a chocolate molten lava cake. The body is thinner than your typical stout or even porter but it matches the taste well, which is mildly sweet and accented with more of that yummy not-too-sweet chocolate cake flavor. To quote my tasting notes: yummy.

On tap at Rip Current Brewing in San Marcos, CA.

Pours a clear super dark brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, and vanilla. Taste is much the same with cocoa and vanilla flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer but it tastes better than it smells in my opinion.

Upon first look and smell, I was in heaven. Sadly, though, this beer didn't deliver on the goods and had all depth of a chocolate scratch and sniff. Sweet like milk chocolate (maybe that's my problem; I prefer 85% or more dark) and light in body, this stout was far too thin and one dimensional to leave a proper chocolate milkstache.
