On-tap 2/13/2015 at Track 84, in Warwick, RI, served in a tulip glass.

A: The beer is a deep gold color, with a thin off-white head that fades quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains sour apples, some spice, some Belgian yeast and a faint touch of hops.

T: The taste starts out with a strong tart apple flavor that is quickly followed by an alcohol bite and some spice. The Then some mild breadiness comes in from Belgian yeast and a thin malt character. There is not much balance. The after-taste is very tart.

M: Crisp but not very smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is dry.

O: Flavorful, goes down ok, not too filling, decent kick, decent representation of style, there are definitely several other beers in the style that I would choose first.

On tap at AllTech Brews and Food Fair, Dublin
Hazy blonde with white film. 3.75
Tartness, green apple skin, and flowers. 4
Apple and spun sugar, some mushy pear esters, bits of white pepper, star anise, and fresh herbal finish. 4.5
Cardamon and saphir end and clean linger.
Medium, chewy, no burn. 4

Boom! Huge complexity, especially in the spice notes - succeeds both as a saison and an apple beer. No heat at all. Craveable and unexpected. 4.25

A 330ml can with a BB of Dec 2016, so it's a little out of date. Picked up a while back from Trembling Madness in York. Given the strength and style, I'm hoping it has held up OK.

A: Poured into a tulip. Can-conditioned. A rich, hazy amber hue with fine sediment and light carbonation. Yields a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a few minutes before subsiding to a patchy surface layer.

S: Aroma of fruity yeast esters and apples, with hints of earthiness, mild herbal notes, fermenting fruit, faint grain and a subtle solventy twang bringing up the rear. So-so.

T: Tastes of fruity saison yeast and tart apples, with glaring solvent undertones. Notes of eathiness, acetaldehyde, a hint of spice/herbs, faint grain and warming booze in the background. Slightly sweet, with little bitterness to speak of.

M: Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with soft carbonation. Decent body but lacking in texture. Aftertaste of yeast esters, solvent, unripe apples and earthiness.

O: Meh - not great. Looks OK, while the aroma and flavour are an uneven blend of fruity yeast esters, apple notes and solvent. To what extent the apples contributed to this is hard to tell. Body is alright but slightly flat. In summary, it's flawed and a tad sickly. Not sure if the character is due to excess age or simply that apples and beer shouldn't be mixed (or both). Anyway, not brilliant.

Not very much Saison characteristic. Since this has been retired the keg may have been old.

Bottle from sainsburys. Nice flowery saison, no sign of any apples. Silky smooth with small creamy head. Hazy golden body, somewhat slick, herbal notes on the back end.

Clear orange color with white head. Aroma is similar to a sweet cider. Sweet, fruity taste with some yeast and alcohol on the finish. Medium body and carbonation. Quite interesting but it's a bit boozy for my taste.
