Small shop, but pretty packed with interesting offerings.

From the sounds of it, the owner mules up NODA cans which is good news for the triangle. There were also some B.C. breweries that were represented that startled me a little bit. How the hell did Howe Sound and Parallel 49 (never even seen in Seattle) find it's way to these shelves, and why?

taplist was a little weak on this particular visit - seems like half the lines had been killed and not replenished. oh well - still did have some st bernie xmas and fullsteam fruitcake. In what appears to be a (tolerated?) trend in the area, everything is served in plastic cups as I'm assuming there isn't sufficient plumbing to wash dishes? Regardless, this sucks big time. It just seems like if you are going to make the effort to get high end kegs (which i understand they do), then you have to find a way to get some actual glassware in the house. Major bummer.

Cool vibe to the place - enough space to move around and some tables out front. Fun place to hang out and kill some time. Even better yet, no TV, so you don't have to suffer through any tarhole athletics

This is the more authentically mellow, cozy, and intimate Beer Study.

It has a true study hall, grungy hipster sort of feel to it, where the beer shelves feel like library aisles, and an old TV behind the bar plays some classic movies. Old school gaming equipment at the front is sure to keep some people entertained, but it was a nice and quiet hangout when we visited.

The staff was respectful but chill, helping only when needed, and the beer list was a little more micro-targeted and higher quality than the bigger location.

Interesting little place off the main drag at UNC. The place is mostly bottle shop with about 20 or so taps. Lots of local NC stuff and more mainstream stuff as well. The wife said the place needed a women's touch but it had plenty of outdoor seating.

One side had bottles and cans from all around NC but they were unfortunately out of Southern Pines and Fonta Flora stuff at the time of visit. I still was able to snag some Burial and Heist cans.

Don't know about food as we were there for beers.

Worth stopping in!

This is one of those places that make a Beer Advocate smile. A bottle shop with an intriguing selection that also serves pours in an eclectic atmosphere. The bar area is small but attracts a combination of students, bohemians, hipsters, and true beer geeks. It features and excellent selection of North Carolina beers, and other craft beers from the US and europe, in bottles and cans. In addition to several good NC offerings, I found a beer from Ohio that I always wanted to try. The bar also features an interesting assortment of beers on draught, including local beers from the Triangle, other areas of North Carolina, and other parts of the country. The staff is friendly and enjoy talking beer with you. They are generous when it comes to letting you sample before deciding what to order. All in all, this is a must-visit for a BA visiting Chapel Hill.

Finally dropped by and wasn't disappointed. Exactly the kind of spot I dig. Great little bottle shop, with several one-offs from local breweries on the shelves. Walked in, found things I wanted, asked a guy behind the bar what he suggested and snagged some of that too. Helpful guy. I've never had a beer there, so I can only speak to the spot as a bottle shop - but the bar was neat and the drafts were interesting. Nice spot to land. The outdoor area in the front reminds me a bit of Common Market in Charlotte. And it's just around the corner from Al's... great burgers, cheers!

This is one of the top 5 bottle shops in the Triangle in my opinion. I'm always impressed with the amount of limited releases they get, and the quantities. The shelves are always full of stuff I want. Frequent awesome draft options and great people running the place. Crowd skews young because it's Chapel Hill, so that can be interesting at times.

I finally made it by after hearing a lot about this place. Great location just off Franklin street between Chapel Hill and Carrboro (two of my favorite places).

The atmosphere is really what you make of it. I could understand loving it or feeling it left a little to be desired. My favorite part is the tables out front (though they were all occupied during our visit). The crowd is just what you'd expect from the area: passionate, diverse and interesting. And they're very dog friendly which is a plus.

The beer list was solid with lots of locals and plenty of good options from the rest of the country and brewing world. Our top choice had kicked earlier and the rest of the options that interested us weren't anything we couldn't have found elsewhere. I had a Stone Chai Spiced IS and my wife an IPA flight.

I'm glad we made it over and would certainly stop again if in the area. But the Triangle has a lot to offer and this one, while adding to the list, doesn't especially stand out.

I love this place! I have seen better beer selections, but they pack a lot into a small space and they let me bring my dog! Their smaller inventory is more than made up for by their atmosphere, location and customer service. Plus, they offer online pre-order on their beer, even some of the limited release stuff. Very nice! The only real negative here is the bar stools are wobbly and too short for the bar.

Oh, and these guys are always hauling Charlotte beers up so that us locals can enjoy fresh Hop Drop & Roll, etc. that do not distribute outside of Charlotte.

I am a regular at Beer Study. I believe it's the perfect bar/beer store. First, the vibe is very laid back. The staff are friendly and know the names of many patrons, but are also warm to new folks to the bar. As far as quality, the owner/operator, JD, is very present and makes sure that there are enough staff so that no server is overwhelmed, plus he's at Beer Study nearly every day. JD has also worked to establish good relationships with brewers and distributors so that Beer Study gets a nice mix of special release kegs. There are beers for all level of buyers from the cheapie six pack, right now a Founder's black IPA for $4.99/4 pack to the $30 Cascade sours. Selection is great too. The focus is on beer you won't find at 7-11 or the local supermarket. All in all, Beer Study is as good a bar/beer store as I've been to. I think you'd like it, too.

Went here because of it's BA ratings, a very interesting place. It's basically a beer store with a bar and a TV in the corner. We ordered a couple of beers on tap and browsed the beer selection. Bottle selection was pretty good, and pricing was awesome (cheaper than both Total Wine & Sam's Quick Stop). You could purchase and bottle and drink there, or just take it home with you. I've heard that they get some really good beers on tap, if you follow their FB page. Would definitely check out again.

Beer Study is a bar. A bar with really interesting beers. Almost all local or regional. All very enticing. Beer Study is a bottle shop with a decent selection. During a visit in Dec 2014, Taylor, the bartender/beer geek extraordinaire helped me choose some on-tap beers to try and some bottles to buy. All were great choices. The people I met in the place were very cool and fun to talk to. On my second visit, they had BCBS--coffee infused on tap. They make frequent trips to Charlotte to pick up some fresh NoDa. On my visit, I got cans of Hop Drop n Roll that were canned the day before! Definitely worth a stop.
